I’m thinking about getting the Plex Pass to unlock the DVR recording feature. 
BUT before I do that I must know if I can watch a recording from the beginning while the recording is still in progress.
Example:
Recording starts at 16:00 - ends at 18:00
I get home at 17:00 and want to start watching this recording from its beginning on my AppleTV 4k+, and continue watching the entire 2 hour long recording without an interruption
Is that possible (now) ?

Indeed it works by selecting the entry in the EPG and then select play from beginning.
But not if you have set the recording to record extra time. There is no way to initiate playback during that extra time.

I guess it does not ask you if you want to play from the beginning then but still allows you to skip back to the beginning?
The problem is that during the extra recording time (at this point the broadcast has ended), the movie/show in no longer visible in the guide and not yet available in your recordings library. Ideally, there will the possibility to start active recordings from the DVR schedule instead of going to the guide.
What I’d like is a “Recordings” tab in Live TV & DVR which not only lists all previous recordings but also those currently in progress for fast and easy access.

Yeah, you’ll find that the play icon on the EPG item is removed when the regular scheduled time is over. So if you have scheduled extra time (like most do with live sports), there’s no way to begin playback during that extra time. You have to wait until the recording is completely finished.
Or as I like to put it: A perfect recreation of a retro VCR-like experience from the 80s/90s when you had to wait for recordings to finish before you could watch.
Problem has existed for well over 3 years.
DVR works great. I never have any trouble recording anything.
Yes, but we’re talking about watching a recording that is in progress.
