Hi,
I come from the DS video world of Synology.
it was possible to start watching a TV show before the recording was finished.
it seems that this is not possible on Plex. can you confirm? Is it in the roadmap (but where is this roadmap?)
Yes, it’s possible (with at least one limitation). To view an in-progress recording, navigate to the guide and play it as normal, the same as you would were it not being recorded.
The limitation I mentioned is that you can’t watch a program from the beginning if you’ve extended its recording time and it’s in that extended time. This would be common to do for a sporting event, for example.
thank you for your answer.
i am a beginner and must not understand everything…
from the program guide, i select the program currently being recorded and i can see it: ok.
but how can i go back to watch it from the beginning?
When you select the item to play it you should be prompted to watch from the beginning or live. This behavior might be client specific though. Which client app are you using for playback?
thank you.
in fact, for now, on one of my two sites, I do not have a TV compatible with any client (old Sony connected TV).
so I will search in DLNA on the “TV recording” directory of the NAS for the recording concerned
one more question:
how to program a daily recording at a fixed time???
i found how to do it but only for 15 days.
moreover, it only offers to index it in the “TV series” library while I would like it to be in a specific library “TV Recordings”
This will configure the DVR schedule such that any airings which occur at the time specified are recorded (provided they meet other criteria you have set, such as recording the series and recording new, repeat, or new and repeat airings). There’s a similar setting for limiting it to a specific channel.
The Plex DVR requires that you select a library of the type corresponding to the type of item being recorded. For example, if you’d like to record a TV series, it must be saved to a library of type “TV Shows.” The same applies for movies. On my own server, I have dedicated DVR TV and DVR Movies libraries. When recording I select the appropriate one depending on what is being recorded. (Plex will remember what you chose, so the next time you record a program the appropriate library will be selected for a given type.)
I recommend you go through the following article from Plex’s support site. It may help answer some questions regarding scheduling recordings. But feel free to ask questions here as well.
thanks for the link that I will go through.
I mainly record the TV news at a fixed time.
I want a recording without any end date.
I defined a library of type “other video”, but it is not proposed to me when I create a new recording task.
There is no end date, as long as the program matches the criteria you set.
Only the TV Shows and Movies type libraries are available as recording destinations. Movies get recorded to a movies-type library; everything else (shows, news, and sports) will be recorded to a TV shows-type library. There is no way around this.
Hello,
I tested this morning:
Resuming from the beginning of a recording in progress from the Plex app actually works very well.
On the NAS, the file corresponding to the current recording is located in a hidden temporary folder, not accessible in DLNA (but accessible from system file)
one last question on this thread:
the recording of the TV news is done in a tree structure that does not make sense for
TV news.
is there a way to record at the root of the chosen directory?
