I originally posted this “bug” back in November, 2016 on the Plex for Roku forums here, and was advised it is a server issue, and not roku specific. Perhaps posting here will bring the problem forward. Here is a post play screen from the Roku:
This glitch only occurs for TV shows that I have included in two libraries. To explain the setup of my libraries…
TV Shows library points to the folder “TV Shows” and the folder “TV Super Heroes”
Super Hero TV shows points only to the “TV Super Heroes” folder.
The TV shows library is configured to “Include in Dashboard” and the other library is not to be “Include in Dashboard.” It’s been that way for a couple of years, so that I don’t get the duplicate entries on the home page in Plex Web and other apps, including the Roku.
The duplicates only show on the post play screens in the apps I have, there is never duplicate entries in the various “On Deck” screens or “Discovery Pages.” I suspect that the post play screen is not respecting the “Do not include in Dashboard” setting as suggested by the Roku developer.
I realize this is probably not a common problem, however, I’m sure I can’t be the only person who has a “common” TV library, and smaller “sub-libraries” A different example might be a main TV library containing both “Adult” and “Kids” TV, and the two other libraries with just the Adult and Kids TV shows.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, this would be a server issue. Let me see if I can reproduce, then I’ll file the issue with the server team.
Just wondering if the problem can be reproduced, or if it’s an “just me” problem. I understand it would be low on the to-do list, but hoping it’s been penciled in.
I actually don’t know if the duplicates show up in post play if you access the show from within the actual library as I always use the “On Deck” or “Recently Added TV” from the landing page, and that shows new content from all libraries, I believe. Thinking out loud, does the location I access the file from (home page vs library) effect the decisions for the post play screen?
I’m not sure where I have something wrong in the file structure, or how the TV libraries are pointed to those locations, but I guess I might have some work to do in my spare time. thanks again.

I don’t see why it would make a difference, but I didn’t check. I just tried from within a library since I didn’t have anything in OnDeck or Recently Added. I’ll try that later.

Never seen the duplicates in a movie section post play, just TV sections. LOL - I hope it’s a problem at your end, cause I’m pretty sure I have tried every possible way to make them go away.

I was trying a movie. I’ll try a TV show later.
Monthly bump.
I know there’s a lot going on, but the problem persists. When there’s some free time, 'cause I realize it takes some time to reproduce, here are the steps to take (should produce same results)
First TV library points to the folders " All TV Shows" and “Kids TV Shows”
Second TV library points only to the folder “Kids TV Shows”
The first TV library has “Include in dashboard” ENABLED
The second TV library has “Include in dashboard” DISABLED
Resulting in:
Duplicate entries DO NOT appear on the Home/Discovery screen in Plex Web, or any apps that I have in “On Deck” “Continue Watching” etc
The duplicate entries appear only on the “Post-Play” screen.
The duplicate entries only appear if the show is “unwatched” in either library
The duplicate entries disappear when, the show is marked as “watched” from either library. The show is marked as watched in both libraries, and I believe that is the expected result.
I use a Roku almost exclusively, so I can’t say for sure if other apps even have a similar “Post-play” screen and exhibit the same quirk.

Another monthly bump, assuming that 2 months qualifies as “later”
On the bright side, since it’s summer and I am not adding too many new TV shows, the problem is not so obvious as it does not occur as often. Currently running PMS Version 1.7.5.4035 on Windows 10, Roku has Plex Pass preview channel 4.4.3 and official channel 4.4.1
Once again, would logs help, and if so which logs - client, server?
Heh-heh - if it’s something wrong in my library set up, it’s good to know I’m not the only one who made the same mistake. On the other hand, I have been waiting patiently since the first time I reported it back in November of 2016 in the Roku app forum (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/244238/post-play-screen-shows-duplicates) for confirmation the problem can be reproduced.
@Flounders98 – just curious, is that the Roku app, or is it on another that has post play? Chances are, with only a few of us seeing and/or reporting the issue, it’s going to be low priority. I can always re-bump the post in another month. >:)

Oh sorry about that. I stopped using the Roku to test some other things and forgot about this. Let me catch back up and I’ll provide an update soon.
Just an update… the duplicate entries on Post Play also show up on the Android app. so you don’t need to re-connect the Roku to see the problem. Similarly, the duplicate entries do not show up on the home screen “On Deck” section or “Recently Added” for the Android app, only on the post play.
It would seem that it must be a server bug, and that the post play screen is not respecting the “Do not Include in Dashboard” setting. Attaching server logs gathered a few minutes after after the duplicate entry showed in the post play on an Android.
@“MovieFan.Plex” – perhaps you could pass this little quirk onto someone else to confirm it’s a bug in the post play info sent to clients. If I could, I would provide the specific info from the logs that prove that post-play is ignoring the “Include in Dashboard” settings for libraries, but I don’t know what to look for. (server logs included 2 posts up)
As a test, I changed the background image for a series that was in the library NOT to be included on deck. As best I can tell, that is the image used in “Post-play” for the Roku. As you can see, from the attached image, the same episode and series has different screens-shots. I believe that proves, with my limited and lo-tech ability, the problem is the server is not respecting the settings for TV libraries, and displaying all “On Deck” episodes, regardless of the settings.
Again, I understand this is not a high priority problem. I’ve been patient, since November of last year when I first reported it in the Plex for Roku forums, and almost 5 months in this thread. I don’t expect an immediate fix, just an acknowledgement that it can be reproduced and might be corrected at some time.
Hey. Sorry about that. I did try to recreate this issue using my Android phone, but couldn’t. In my post-play only get shows that are in the same library as the show I just watched, I do not get shows from other libraries. For the library I used, I did set it to not “include in dashboard”. I do get the results from OnDeck in my post-play.
I looked into this and can confirm that “include in dashboard” only applies to the homepage. Each library still contains the info for OnDeck, Recently Added, etc., it’s just will not be shown on the home page. At least in the Android app, there is a Browse/Discover view. If you switch to Discover you can see the library specific OnDeck and other sections, even with the “include in dashboard” disabled for that library.
I’m not sure why you are getting shows from other libraries in the post-play. That part I can’t recreate. So there is something going on there. But your initial issue that “include in dashboard” is not being respected for post-play I think is not a bug as that setting only affects the home page.
@“MovieFan.Plex” … not sure you understand the glitch, and how to re-produce it.
To get the duplicates in post play, you must have one TV library pointed at 2 folders, a second library pointed at only one of those same two folders. The only episodes that show up as duplicates are the episodes that are in BOTH libraries. Episodes that are NOT included in both libraries come up as expected - that is, only once. I suspect you did not have the second library pointing to one of the folders in your first library in your test.
Browsing through the discovery hubs to an individual library gets exactly what you described, no duplicates.
In order to prove to myself it’s not a one-off glitch on my server, I set up a new server as a fresh install on a different machine, and created two TV libraries.
The first library (named “TV Shows”) is pointed at two folders.. C:\plex\AdultTV and C:\Plex\KidsTV
The second library (named “Kids TV”) is only pointed to one of those folders… C:\Plex\KidsTV
Using the Roku, after watching one episode included in both libraries, post play showed “Playing Next” as the next episode as expected, but also showed the same episode in the “On Deck” section. A duplicate entry, but not immediately obvious.
Persevering, I watched an episode from a different series that is not included in the second library. Post play came up with the correct episode for “Playing Next”, but also showed duplicates of the next episode in the first series. So, in effect I have 3 items on deck… the next episode in the series I was watching, and two of the same episode from the first series. Remember, new server, only two episodes have been watched. Here’s the Roku screen.
It’s possible I have set up the libraries incorrectly on both servers, and if so, I would like to know what I have done wrong. If not, then the bug is reproducible.
Ah sorry. I get it now. 2 libraries, 1 file. I thought you had 2 libraries and 2 files.
Ok, I’m able to reproduce the issue now. I wonder why it doesn’t do that when it was different files.
I’ll go ahead and file this issue. Although I don’t know how many people have multiple libraries pointing to the same files, so I don’t know if this will be a priority to fix.
As for the “include on dashboard” setting, I hope you understand that it only affects the homepage. It has no bearing on this issue with the post play.
