Movie duplicates

hi have the same movies showing up sometimes 3 times always at least twice there is no duplicate files or duplicate links to the same folder

does anyone else get this ? if so have you managed to fix it ?

Are you sure it’s actual duplicates?
In the recent past a lot of users got confused then Plex introduced “Inline Collections”. Users who had “Use collection info from The Movie Database” enabled in their library settings ended up with collection entries where they only had a single item of that collection… If that’s the case in your library, you should see some differences between the different items – e.g. one showing the movie poster, name and year while the other shows the same poster, name but “1 movies” instead of the year.

Go to one of the movies, click the three dots in the top right, choose Get Info, and then under Files see if it’s listed twice. If it’s not, click the other poster and see if it shows it in a different location.

My other thought would maybe be check for any symlinks you or your software might have made.

Is the screenshot made from inside a library or is it from the main page of the web app?
Please don’t crop your screenshot so extremely. The surrounding text or menu items can give important clues for diagnosis.

Did you add the same folder twice to a library?
Did you create several libraries which point to the same media folders?

with regards to where it is viewed in this way the screen shot is in effect my plex home page

what is also interesting is that two the films are not in the same top level category for example E:\comedy (for invisible man movie ) E:\SciFi (for Solo and Alien )

any help greatly received

Do you have several versions of the movie? One version was already in your library and the other was just added recently?

Did you inspect the Plex media info and compared the file names and folder paths between the two posters of the same movie?

Hi yes i did that, i recently deleted one of the poster duplicates in plex and both posters disappeared, i sometimes get three duplicates but normally its two only happens for films never for tv series

What I mean by that, is not only

E:\comedy
E:\comedy

constitute a duplicate, but also

E:\comedy
E:

i.e. adding a folder and subfolders thereof separately.

You have the same movie in 2 different libraries.

And since it was recently added to both libraries, it will appear 2 times on the front page under ‘Recently Added’.

Hello,

Same happend to me,

With this config:

The movies are not in the same folder, but it never happend to me. Always when i added duplicated media even in other folder plex were showing to me like “Duplicated media” and not like this.,

Now if i delete the last duplicated media added and change the agent and add again the movie this happend.

WIth deleting media and adding again i mean just the last movie added from W: drive. not the I: one
The I: one is the first movie added long time ago.

Problem: If using different scanner duplicated don’t work sometimes with some movies, but it didn’t happend before i think.

Is there a way to fix it?

If you

• already have a movie in your library, which was ‘matched’ with e.g. the ‘Plex Movie’ agent
• you then switch your library to use a different agent (e.g. TheMoviedatabase) and add a new movie file

The new movie will then be matched with the new agent. Even if this new movie has the same title as an existing movie - for Plex they will be separate, different movies.
Because they were matched with different meta data agents.

2 of those are very likely connected to the same folder on your media storage.
