So I opened Plex today. Instead of seeing icons that look exactly like DVD cover scans, I now have large rectangular boxes, with the top and bottoms cut off. How do I return to what I had, for movies and television shows, a picture of the DVD cover?
This doesn’t seem so much related to the thread you posted in, so I’ve moved it into its own thread instead.
Can you share some more details where/how you see this?
Are you using Plex in the browser or a certain client app (e.g. on Roku, Android, Apple TV…)? What version of that app do you have installed?
I am using the Plex Web Player v1.22.3.4392 in Firefox on Windows 10 and IOS.
The library screen always looked like this, as if you were looking at the DVD cover of the movie:
It now looks like this:
I have looked everywhere and cannot find where to change this back to the way it was. It started yesterday, Sunday, April 26th. All computers, both Windows & Mac, now display it incorrectly. iPhones and iPads display it correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Correction: It started Sunday, April 25th.
It this an actual movie library or an “other videos” type library?
Do you experience the same on different browsers on your Mac / Windows machines?
This is an “Other Videos” library.
Displays the same way on the Chrome browser as it does on Firefox.
Other Video Library is now in Landscape mode, If you want portrait mode use a Movie / Film Library when setting it up. As Tom was leading up to in a previous post.
Thank you both. That solved the problem.
Looks like this issue was solved and I see what I need to do, but so far its turning out to be a potential nightmare. I have an Other Videos folder that contains about 600 non-standard movies where agents don’t work. I also have a twin backup folder with the same - and because these share metadata, they stay in sync with each other. I have spend many many hours manually naming them and creating graphics for each one to show up correctly in portrait/poster mode. Now that Plex has changed “other videos” characteristics to landscape (they should just give us a toggle!) I am trying to create a new “movies” library and pointing it to the same folder(s). It took a long time to finally have it recognize the video files, and now that it has, while the names are there the posters and other settings (banners etc) are not. How can I transfer all the hard work I did on the metadata into this new Movies library? Oddly even with the old “Other Videos” library the images show up correctly on Apple TV devices, but not on Windows or Mac browser versions and oddly only on some Roku devices (others are landscape). Seems like a mess but it also seems like it should be easy to fix. Where are the Plex support people when you need them? I do pay for this service.
I’m confused by the Other Videos update that shows horizontal posters on the Mac web browser but on my Apple TV these same posters show up as Portrait. PLEX please give us the option to choose between Portrait and Horizontal posters! I have many videos that do not require a vertical poster and would be nice to showcase landscape poster or frame of that video.
Good to know, but now how to migrate a huge “Other videos” library over to Movies and retain all the customized metadata, posters and naming etc?
