OK, am I missing something, or did something change?
ALL of my “Personal Media” libraries are set up as “Other Videos” and each library was configured to display my videos in Grid View so that I could see the 'Poster" I added for each video… somehow the display has changed and it no longer displays the Poster format that I prefer and that I’m familiar with, what changed, or did I screw it up myself somehow?
Also, I had my Personal Media “Playlists” pinned to my home screen to have easy access on the left side menu, but I dont want them to appear on the bottom of my home screen… is this possible? This used to work for me before, but again, it seems like I either messed something up, or something changed.
My OV libraries were fine until the last month or so. Is there any work around? Do I have to change my library format, or is that another worse nightmare? I can’t image losing all my OV posters. Many of them I was able to DL, and most I had to create on my own. I’m talking like 4000 videos! UGH!
The idea is/was OV Libraries are primarily used for items that will ONLY ever have a Screen Grab and that’s gonna be landscape. The nightmare for those folks was seeing their screen grab cropped down to a Picassoesque color blob.
I guess there’s more of those folks than there is of you folks.
I’m lucky, I guess. I started grabbing screens or google images for items long ago 'cause the mode I view in was ‘mostly’ landscape. The nightmare for me was on some clients in some views my artwork was cropped down to a Picassoesque color blob.
One way or another somebody’s gonna get hurt, or was hurt, but we can assume at this point what we fix won’t need fixing again in a few months.
You think I can easily change the library to Movies, and restore the look and feel? or is this another nightmare? I can’t invest the time to fix 4000+ video posters
i’m about minutes away from leaving plex forever, i spent hours configuring and creating box art for my personal library, this new look is TRASH! You shouldn’t be screwing over your users, and i’m paying for it. Livid!
this i tried, its a huge nightmare. my OV library was a mix of individual files and collections, made up from live concerts. if i create a new library like this it doesn’t seem to process all the tagging i had done to sort out the collections. It was finding box art i had used but it was processing for ever and never seemed to finish. I’ll try and scan the files over night see if it works itself out but would plex know those tags? and transfer them?
Seems like the quickest solution for me will be to tag all the individual concerts that were not in a collection to a new collection, then the collections tab will display as box art. Pain in my ass. Really can’t believe Plex is giving us less flexibility with look and feel rather than more. If they just added another viewing format to the list no one would have been screwed over. You can view by list, folder or grid. So why not just add box art and screenshot versions. Seems pretty simple to me.
Thanks for this, have my files in Filename.mp4 and Filename.jpg format (with background art) and this worked, files are back in portrait view again as expected
Why can’t the developers just make it an option. I used Other Videos type to create a collection of my entire gaming history making posters for each game and using heaps of custom metadata. Too scared to try and change anything and lose all that but gutted that all my posters are not landscape. Makes even less sense when if you have a collection, and then go into that collection, all media there is shown in the poster view. I get that this is meant for ‘screen grab’ media but not everyone works like that so just as there’s a grid view, detailed view, and list view, surely it would be possible to have the selection of poster grid view, or landscape grid view, which then works for everyone. So disappointed in this forced change.
I’d add further than even for home movies and other non-TV non-Movie media, I have always made a custom poster. I would never, and will never, use a screen grab to display what a video is. So much effort has gone into making the whole media collection display well and it’s now been ruined in an instant.
Was wondering what had happened to my 6 libraries spread over two servers containing years worth of manual set up work. Surely having an option to have either fanart or cover displayed shouldn’t have been too hard to provide? I’m now going to have to spend a load of time removing and re-building these for no reason other than lazy programming.
This is on top of the numerous hours I’m having to put in to correct Plex screwing up my music libraries on both servers.
Seems like this should be an option to choose how you want it displayed.
Grid View - Poster
Grid View - Landscape
Why take away a perfectly good feature, is plex google now?
I hope they did it this way because they just need time to make it work properly rather than gutting it forever.
Just found this thread … thought it was something i’d messed up in my OV libraries but i’m having exactly the same issue.
I too have spent several years creating portrait artwork for my own videos - now i’m going to have to spend the same time again creating landscape versions? Surely the option to change the display format can be added?
Also what i find odd is that the android (mobile & TV) and Firestick apps all display the artwork in the correct portrait format - will these apps also be changed in the future to display in Landscape?
If this is to be a permanent change it is deeply disappointing - one of the reasons i moved to Plex was what appeared to be the consistency and quality of their updates and lack of unnecessary ‘micky mouse’ changes … perhaps i judged too soon.
