Posters showing in background dimensions

Client: Plex HTPC for Windows 1.31.1.3412-f3195b0d
Server: Windows Version 1.30.0.6486

Most of my libraries are TV or Movies, but I have one that is managed as personal videos (it’s a bunch of fairly obscure videos for my daughter – speech therapy and such). Most of it is organized as Collections.

I just installed Plex HTPC and for some reason that library is showing all of the posters in the background aspect ratio.

If I go to the Library view and change the sort order (to anything) it goes back to showing poster size (even if I change the sort order back to its original title sort). However, later it will revert to showing background again.

In Plex for Windows 1.60.1.3413-533a7645, I have the same issue in Library view (though the sort thing doesn’t resolve it), but Collections view always shows posters.

Any idea what’s going on?

How it looks most of the time:

How it should look (and how it looks if I change the sort order):

For a personal or “other videos” type category this is intended. Since things aren’t matched to a database you aren’t going to pull regular movies posters for it

Most of the time this means you’ll be getting screen grabs from landscape view home videos which wouldn’t get cropped correctly to a standard size movie poster

Personally, I think you should be able to choose whatever way you like it, that’s just not an option

From a quick search of the videos in your screenshot, most of those shows are listed on TMDB and TVDB

The only real long-term solution is to rename those with a s01e01 format and put them in a standard TV library

Both of these programs are free and reasonably easy to use if you decide to take that route

TV show format
Show Name: ${showTitle} (${showYear}) {tvdb-${showTvdb}}
Season: Season ${seasonNr2}
Episode Name: ${showTitle} (${showYear}) s${seasonNr2}e${episodeNr2} ${episode.title}

Yeah, all of the art is local jpg files. The weird thing is that they show as poster size in other versions of the player (windows version if I choose Collection view, Samsung TV version, etc.) And, it switches to the poster size if I change the sort order (the second screenshot). That makes it feel like a bug.

I can try using standard TV & Movie libraries. I used to have it like that, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to have movies and TV shows in the same library (trying to keep things simple for my wife and the baby sitters). I uploaded a lot of the metadata to TVDB and TMDB, but never quite got it to work. It’s been a while, though, so maybe I’ll give it another shot.

Thanks for the advice!
