Posters

I made a change to one of my TV Series and needed to Refresh Metadata and while the Posters previously had about a half dozen choices (some looked like fan art), the refresh left me with only one choice.

Has there been a change or setting I missed, or is this just how the new scanners work?

What agent, what version of PMS?
Does this issue persist if you refresh the show’s metadata again?

I cannot seem to reproduce this on my setup.

Also check you don’t have any DNS or internet related problems. A failed refresh could result in what you are seeing …

PMS Version 1.27.1.5916
Plex TV Series for agent and scanner.
Persists if I refresh again.
No DNS or internet problems.

Also tried “Fix Match”, same issue.

I have fanart,.tv checked, but the posters that I see on that website (and were pulled in before by Plex), are not listed in Posters as a selection now.

That fanart tv setting under the agent settings is only used with the old defunct legacy agent/scanner. They are not used with the new modern agent/scanner (Plex TV Series).

I’m not sure if the new scanner uses art from fanart anymore, I thought they used just TMDB and TVDB as a failback if nothing exists on TMDB but I’m open to correction on that.

Anyhow, if there is something specific you want from fanart then I’d suggest you invest the time in using local assets for your artwork. Takes times to setup but once done you then never need to worry about plex changing anything.

Thanks. I though the change might have been the new scanner, but wasn’t sure.

In testing, I changed the agent to the legacy agent, and the poster I had before were downloaded, so I guess the new scanner gets the poster from a different source

Also, seems the new agent didn’t add the episode titles (it entered Season 1 - Disc 1 as the title)
I tried searching with tvdb-[id#], and it still didn’t use the ep titles listed on TheTVDB.
New scanner, huh

Well… for starters you might want to disable the Prefer local metadata option in the advanced library configuration. Matching with a TVDb-ID won’t force Plex to use metadata from TheTVDb… this just helps matching the show

Do you have a manually created white-list of Plex-related domain names somewhere in your router or firewall? If so, you might have to add one or two subdomains to this list. The new agent uses new subdomains from where it fetches metadata and posters.

From what I remember it’s not recommended to switch from the new modern agent/scanner. It stores stuff in the db which is not compatible with the legacy agent/scanner so you may get wonky functionality in certain use cases.

Just letting you know …

Just disabled the Prefer local metadata option in the advanced library configuration, and the episodes are still not named properly

Have a look here TV Series selected correctly but show names are incorrect - #2 by dokuro

Its a recent post I created explaining you can control the episode ordering. It might help you here.

This assumes you have a good naming convention on your files :joy:

Found the problem. For the series I was testing, TheTVDB did not have episode ordering on DVD Order, only Aired Order, and I had DVD Order selected in Advanced on the Plex Show page. Selection Aired Order gets the episode names. (If I use the legacy scanner with TheTVDB, its gets the episode names even with DVD Order, so I guess the old one will switch to Aired Order if there is no info in DVD Order)

Thanks for your help with this. I understand the new Plex scanner better now.
