Potential bug in Plex client for Amazon Fire stick

Not sure where to file bug reports so I’m posting it here. Please redirect me if this is inappropriate.

I’ve recently purchased an Amazon Fire T Stick 4K Max, and I’m having great fun setting it up.

Everything seems to work fine, apart from a really annoying bug in the Plex media player. This typically affects videos that were recorded using a smart phone in portrait mode - i.e. the video is tall and narrow. Most of the time the playback works fine, however, occasionally, the video is rotated 90 degrees anti-clockwise, so that it appears on its side. As if this wasn’t bad enough, the original video gets stretched so that it fits in the window, so everything is much wider and/or flatter than it ought to be - think hall of mirrors at a funfair.

Curiously, the bug is not 100% repeatable - occasionally, I can open a file for which this problem has occurred and it will appear exactly as it should do. Likewise, it does not occur for all ‘portrait’ videos - most will appear exactly as they should do.

I’m running the latest plex media server (under Fedora) and the latest install of the flex media player on the client.

Does anyone have any ideas how to prevent this occurring? I’m more than happy to provide any further details that may help.

There is no official way of raising bugs, posting here is best.

Can only suggest you collect logs from the FireTV and your media server for when the issue occurs, and when it doesn’t, then post them here and hope a Plex employee assists you.

Hmmm - how can I collect logs from a Fire Stick?

Interestingly, I can fix the issue temporarily by changing the Quality setting during playback - e.g default is “Play Original Quality 2.2Mbps (about 1,000MB her hour)” - if I change this to “Convert Automatically” then the picture is displayed correctly.
