Pre-roll won't work

I’ve been trying to get a pre-roll video to play on Plex, but so far, it’s not working.

I have the following settings enabled (Enable Cinema Trailers in the library’s advanced settings)

The following settings in “Extras” are also enabled.

I don’t think I’ve missed anything? There’s no space after or before the path in the pre-roll path name either. Regardless, I see the trailers, and then the movie starts - but no pre-roll.

Have you enabled trailers/prerolls on the client?
In the server you’re basically configuring what it’ll offer to clients – the client has a configuration on how it’ll use it, e.g. I don’t want to see trailers or a preroll on my mobile but I do want to see them on the big-screen apps (like the Apple TV).

  • on the Apple TV: Settings > Experience > Cinema Trailers (IIRC there’s an option to pick how many trailers you want to see or only to show the preroll)
  • on Plex for Windows: Settings > Plex for Windows > Player > Extras > Cinema Trailers to Play Before Movies

Yep - Both are set to play 3 trailers. I don’t see the pre-roll specifically mentioned, unless I’m missing something. Though on both devices, I’ve set up the following (screenshot from PC but changed it on Apple TV as well);

I believe it’s enough to set it to 0 – with a preroll configured it should still play that.
Can you verify the file is located at that very location and your PMS has permission to see it. As your server is running on a Syno, that’ll be Plex (for DSM 6) or PlexMediaServer (for DSM 7).

PlexMediaServer is the one for me, and it has full control over the folder where it’s located, so that should not be a problem.

I ended up moving the file to a different location, and added a .plexignore file as I did not want it to actually show up in my movie library. It’s now working, albeit I don’t know which of the two files it’s playing before the movie… So I’m just leaving both as it is… :smiley:
