Preferences.xml empty after power fail

Server Version#: 1.32.2.7002
Player Version#:

Running Centos 7

Had a power failure and when power was restored my plex server was not in good shape. Found that the Preferences.xml file was empty.

I followed instructions from various posts :

Deleted Preferences.xml file and allowed Plex to rebuild. No Joy
Deleted all Authorized servers from Authorized Devices. Partial Joy
Followed the posts to reclaim server. Unauthorized
Ran script provided by Plex Team member ChuckPa. line 8: syntax error near unexpected token `newline’

So far, I am able to access my plex libraries local. I have had to grant access to individuals in my friends lists and local users. However, things are still not normal.

Remote Access no longer stays configured and drops within a couple minutes is the greatest concern but I am worried that there are other consequences that will surface.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

Which one?

The updated one on GitHub ?

The one the was last updated 4 months ago:

Line 8 is where SetPref() starts.

If that’s an error, you got a busted up /bin/sh

If you take the script and run it against shellcheck.net, it passes with flying colors.
It also passes in my IDE.

There indeed might be more going on. I have done some other updates and clean up and going to give it another day to see if results change. Latest startup of plex is a little more stable and a tail of the logs looks better. However, my Remote Access keeps dropping and it was amazing stable before.

Worst case scenario

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Delete Preferences.xml
  3. Start Plex (It’ll create a new ID)
  4. make sure you have curl installed.
  5. Go to plex.tv/claim
  6. It’ll give you a claim token.
  7. Now, within the next 4 minutes
curl -X POST 'http://127.0.0.1:32400/myplex/claim?token=PASTE_TOKEN_HERE'

This is what the claim tool does to claim.

After about 15-20 seconds, if all is OK,
You’ll get a gob of XML.

It’s claimed.

Now to to settings, Find it, start setting actual preferences in the GUI.
REMEMBER, your library sections already exist. don’t let it trick you into creating more.

Cool. Thanks.

Clarity. Do all the Friends Access Grants and Preferences have to be retouched?

They will still be on your account (friends).

You will need grant access becuase this is a “new ID” to Plex.tv

Wow, thanks for the amazing speed in response!!

Keep being amazing!

I will post an update tomorrow. Cheers

Still have an outstanding problem where Remote Access is no longer stable. Will on stay connected for 30 secs to 3min. Nothing has changed on the network. Only the Preferences.xml issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, switched to my secondary provider and all seems good. Now on to fixing my primary service. Thanks again ChuckPa.
