I Removed my server remotely, how can I restore it... remotely. (possible?)

I “Removed” my server remotely, now I can’t restore it to get to my media.
It is an Ubuntu Server OS (22.04), I have SSH access to the server.
Plex Media Server is running, I can start/stop it.
I stopped it, removed Preferences.xml, and restarted. That didn’t work.
I do not have local access to my server, I am traveling.
Suggestions/Help please.

Found it! https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288586-installation/

Opening the Plex Web App on a Device Other than the Server Itself → On a Different Network

Thank you PLEX!!!

  1. download the file
  2. scp it to your server
  3. ssh into your server
  4. With reset (new, non-claimed) Preferences.xml
  5. Get plex claim token (plex.tv/claim)
  6. within 5 minutes , copy the token and paste into the claim script (PMS STOPPED)

It will write / update Preferences.xml for you
It will confirm your email and plex username (so you know it worked)

Start PMS

ChuckPa…

You do realize I fixed it already, it’s in the post above.

Note, it was VERY easy to fix without having to download unknown software and follow a bunch of commands. Or be asked to contribute for software that is not needed.

One liner SSH command and the usual Plex URL, then boom, I was into my Plex server, easy peasy, no software required.

To other Plex users, I had a little difficulty finding the answer, even tried to replace the Preference.xml, etc… I never download random software, usually not safe, zero trust policy.

Follow the link above from Plex, guaranteed to work, for free! I had to tweek the SSH command a bit as the SSH port I use is not default, neither is the Plex port. But If you’re using nonstandard ports. You know what your doing anyway.

Once again thank you Plex!

sorry for that.

I was remote, looking at the forum via my cell phone, and missed it.

whatever works – all good.
