They removed this with FreeNAS 9.3. They do have a VirtualBox jail option, but going with that introduces a virtualization layer, which won't be as performant.

I was able to create a debian squeeze jail and install the plexmediaserver package, but wasn't able to get it to start due to an unmet dependency (libboost-system1.57.0). I'm not a Linux compatibility expert so it's entirely possible that I took a wrong turn somewhere and that it actually will run with the proper encouragement. It seems like we would be more likely to find all the dependencies with a newer Linux, but IIRC this is pretty close to the limit for the Linux compatibility layer in terms of supported Linux kernel version.
The best approach might be to see if the gracenote libraries and dependencies can run under Linux compatibility, and then have a FreeBSD-native plexmediaserver interact with them. That would limit the number of bits running through the Linux compatibility and would probably make the adventure a lot easier to manage, but we would probably need help from the Plex team to implement this (I haven't looked but I'm assuming the gracenote features, etc. have been stripped out of source).
If we added a compile-time knob then ports-system users could tick `with_linux_compat_gracenote` to turn on the extra features, and users without could leave it off in order to keep the same functionality today.
Anyway, I'm making a lot of assumptions here and there are a lot of places where this could break down. We'll just have to keep looking into what is possible.
Bugger! I assume this stops the Plex Mix and Mood features too?

Yes, those require the Gracenote libraries not available to the FreeBSD server
very bad news...
I think this will be the final straw that forces me to leave FreeNAS.

for me it is impossible for now, to many work to do...
I've been pricing up a new unRAID based system due to the lack of support in FreeNAS. Ā FreeNAS has been great, but something linux based would be far easier for messing around with (for me at least).
Time to go flame the Gracenote forums(kidding).
I too enjoy FreeBSD(FreeNAS) with Plex. I suppose I can run another server with Linux+ZFS, and just share that with my family.Ā
Still. BUMMER.
What's even worse is that when I login to my server it says "Experience new music features with a premium music library. Create a Library."
Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.
You can still create a premium music library and get most of the new features. You just don't get the Gracenote fingerprinting etc and Plex Mix. Even though Plex Mix would allow me to dump Google music once and for all this is still way better than what the music library used to be like.Time to go flame the Gracenote forums(kidding).

In order to get around this issue (for the moment) I installed a second Plex instance on my Linux server in the interim, just as a Premium music library. I think there may be some hope in the Plex plugin install process creating a second jail and tunnel to support the Linux Gracenote binary, but given that the effort could be herculean, or even impossible without significant performance hits, I can see why, at least for the moment the decision was made to not attempt it.Ā
I agree with my fellow FreeNAS Plex'ers on this issue, but I don't fault Plex for it. And it's hard to blame Gracenote, since they would foot the bill for development and deployment with likely very limited gain. I hope that continued interest will change the outcome. But thanks again, for the continual update in this wonderful media streaming solution.
I couldnāt agree more. Love plex and as you say not their fault. That plex is available on FreeBSD in the first place is amazing. Would have liked to have gracenote features. Might install a bhyve Ubuntu for just the music.
When the cost was discussed with the developers, I wonder if it's within a range we could come together and supply. I know that requires a lot of discussion and negotiation (future support, freebsd versions etc), but I wanted to put the question out anyway.
Hello. I understand some of the Premium features should still work on FreeBSD.
And when I updated my PMS installation I got the option to create a new Premium music library.
But I wanted to change names, so I deleted both my music libraries and then I was going to create a new "Premium music library".
But the option wether to choose premium or basic is not there?? (Ā https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204892678 )
Im on PMS 0.9.12.0 with an Plex pass user signed inn and having internet access.

The option to create a premium library shouldn't appear at all for the OS's that don't support it, so currently you shouldn't ever see the option to create one.
The new features that are supported on all servers are available under the last.fm agent settings (They should be enabled by default)
i TRY TO USE THE NEW FEATURES, SAYS i NEED A PLEX PASS, sorry for the capos, anyway, I click on it and it takes me to a page that tells meĀ I have a Plex Pass, like no ā ā ā ā ā sherlocke and then I came here after multiple tries to see if I am missing something or of anyone else has a similar problem but I cant find anything similar so I post here and ya'all can tell me what racoon I need to skinto fix this. Thank ya
Normally when you get that error it means that the server isn't able to connect and verify your account or you're not logged into your plexpass account on the server.
When you look at your Plex Media Server.log are you seeing any connection errors?

Thanks, thats probably it. I am setting up a new backup server with my old NAS as it already had the info on it as a backup and decided to hook it to my laptop thats on all the time so the chances that both servers are down at the same time when I am away will hopefully be remote. But your fix sounds right because I didnt want to hook it online til I was finished cleanin up a few things in the folders and that escaped me as the reason. Thanks again
PS> To be clear, I was an am signed in but the server isnt hooked to the "outside" yet so thats what I think it is, hopefully. Cheers
That sucks :/ I was really looking forward to seeing this feature. I hope there will be a workaround soon :/
