Premium music features :(

That sucks :/ I was really looking forward to seeing this feature. I hope there will be a workaround soon :/

I'm working on a workaround! I'll report back if I get it figured out...

I'm not sure if feld already has, but as another member of the FreeBSD committers team, I've reached out to Gracenote to see if I can help add FreeBSD support to their SDK offering and hence bring these cool features to the FreeBSD version of Plex.

I will update when I hear back.

Hopefully can be fixedĀ  :)

Finally got around today to updating Plex server on my FreeNAS to try out the new music features, only to find I couldn't create a premuim music library at all (v 0.9.12.1 installed currently)

I was hoping it was just user set-up error and I missed something so popped in here to find out. And now seems it wasn't user error...

I'm actually also working on a workaround. Started working on a Virtualbox jail with a virtual Linux install (debian/ubuntu), but I ran into a lot of issues, mainly with the network and the Virtualbox Guest Additions. The latter is needed for storage sharing, so adding the music folder to the virtual OS. Networking isn't needed that badly, but the console sucks because the keyboard settings are messed up, so that I can't type in the necessary commands to install the Plex Media Server. The alternative would be SSH, but that doesn't work due the the mentioned network issues :/ If you got any further than that, let me know!

Many features, including premium ones like VEVO music videos, will work on FreeBSD.

Any ETA for these features to land in regular music libraries?

They have been since the big music release.

You can make sure they are enabled by going to your last.fm agent settings (Settings -> Server -> Agents -> Artists -> Last.fm) and checking the VEVO Music Videos box.  And the gear box next to last.fm in the settings list will popup with other additional options (Concert Info and Popular Track information)

Just a quick update, unfortunately not heard anything back from Gracenote, which is disappointing as I would have at least expected an answer to the questions either way by now.

Edit: Correction, looks like they did respond and it got flagged as spam, so I never saw it.

Unfortunately the initial response wasn't too useful, just reiterated the supported platforms which we all know, so replied in the hope we can make some contacts to help bring Gracenote lib support to FreeBSD.

Far more tied to FreeBSD/FreeNAS than I am to GraceNote and music hosting. No transition to Linux for this server will be happening. I'll just be a non-user and ignoring these features until such a day as the issues are resolved. But the exclusion of a major server platform is definitely frustrating. It's my opinion that if a feature can't be supported across all of Plex's platforms it shouldn't be incorporated, as a matter of principle. Put your weight behind technology that is OS-agnostic, since Plex desires to be so as well.

But the exclusion of a major server platform is definitely frustrating.

It's frustrating to us as well, but I have to blunt with you: in the month of May, only 1.54% of media servers created were on FreeBSD.

I'm finally a part of the 1%!

And here i was doing the same thing with the Python beet tool and FPcalc;Ā

I feel the same as everyone else here. I enjoy working within FreeNAS, however, now I would like to switch to a Linux server because I was really looking forward to making good use of the new features. Is there anyone that is super Linux savvy and would be willing to get me started?I only ask because my collection is substantial and lots of family and friends count on my collection to be there. Don't want lots of down time while I "figure it out" :)

I’ve continued discussions with gracenote and at this time I’d say they are talking very positively so fingers crossed that will continue and will provide a path to unlock these features for Plex on FreeBSD.

Sounds great!

I'm not really interested in the GraceNote integration and I also don't agree with sremick that a future shouldn't be implemented if it can't be implemented on all platforms but I don't like what you are saying here. FreeBSD users are (mostly) power users and power users are the ones who promote a technology the most and provide the community with support. Power users are always a minority but ignoring the power user/enthusiast base is not something any technology company should do.

PS. I'm not trying to say that only FreeBSD users are power users but that most of FreeBSD users probably are.

I hope you're not trying to say that Plex is ignoring you, because that's not the case at all. We asked Gracenote for FreeBSD support (and hey, did the port in the first place!)  :D

elan, so there will be a full premium music support on freebsd soon? :D

No, I don't know that; what I meant was that we _asked_ Gracenote for the FreeBSD libs at the time. No such luck.

Do you have a source for this information? thanks -CMAX

Does anyone know what the problem is that Gracenote does not build their libs for FreeBSD?
