I have access to multiple servers. Some content is available on more than one server.
If I am playing content on one server and I lose connectivity, (maybe that server loses power?), it would be nice to be able to select that same content on another server, and have the “Resume” options displayed instead of having it just start at the beginning and then needing to fast forward to get back to my play position.
A movie is a movie, regardless of which server it streams from, right?
This would require a central location “in the cloud” ( i.e. not on a computer you are controlling) to store your watching progress with at least a precision of a minute.
In time, this will then grow to become a complete list of videos you have been watching.
All “cloud” computers are accessible not only by you, but also other people.
Depending on their location, that can include police and clandestine organisations.
If that’s what you’re aiming for… there’s already an existing feature suggestion asking for that functionality. I suggest you vote/comment in that thread instead in order to avoid distracting the attention/support (=votes).
Edit: There’s even one asking to store the watch status to Dropbox
