Prevent PMS from starting at login

Server Version#: 1.28.1.6018

I run PMS in a Windows 11 PC and have it starting with a scheduled task “at system startup” as I rarely log into that PC. I used to run it as a service but as I needed HW transcoding, I ended up starting PMS with a scheduled task and it runs great.

Sometimes I need to log on the PC to do some maintenance and as soon as I log in a new instance of Plex starts automatically.

I have disabled it a couple of times from the system tray but every time I update PMS, the setting comes back again.

How can I disable this behavior permanently so it sticks even when updating PMS?

Many thanks

try open: %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup in file explore, and remove the shortcut

Thanks, @dane22

There is nothing there as I disabled it in the system tray - right click “Start Plex Media Server at login”, remove checkmark.

The problem is that it comes back again with every new update.

Sadly just confirmed, and investigating

triggers this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Yes. That’s it.

Not a showstopper at all. Just wondering if there is a more permanent solution to disable PMS start at login which would stick even after updating to new versions.

Looks like disabling Plex Media Server in the Task Manager Startup tab does the trick and holds after updating PMS
