Preview thumb generation never ends; 7 hours, 1 file

On some particular files, the preview thumb generation for newly added files is endless; attached is a file that was trying to generate preview thumbs for over 7 hours. I stopped the process, removed the file and started over. Same result. I have noted this on one other file; both files were UK TV recordings.

I’m still having this problem on server version: 1.18.7.2438

an investigation of sorts is underway here:

Might bear watching.

The file I provided, Plex cannot generate previews for; it can spend as long as it likes but doesn’t even start. I looked at that post, seems his do complete but take hours, whereas mine just never start and never complete, for the file provided.

That file is toast.

Tried to remux it while converting that super-duper AAC to AC3 to add it as a test after I added the original, but Xmedia Recode vomited pea soup all over the desktop.

I’m going to try to remux it with MKVToolNix - as a last resort. <—failed.

Not sure where that file came from, but it’s broken. Totally.

The channels app DVR. I’ll get on to them then.

Yea, they should be able to get to the bottom of it.

Anyway to ‘save’ this file? It plays perfectly fine; Plex just cannot generate thumbs from it.

Dunno.

I’m not adding it to my Plexiverse - that is certain.

VLC played it too - proving once again that VLC will play any kind of trash you throw at it. ← it did say it couldn’t recognize any of it’s codecs, but played it anyway.

For Plex - you’ll probably have to stick with codecs we use here on Planet Earth.

While I was sitting here watching Handbrake work, I put that file through VideoRedo for a Quickstream Fix:

A Quick Stream Fix-1

24,877 resync frames later - and it’s still broken.

I couldn’t detect any canyons in it, but that VideoReDo feature will recover files lightly glitchy - like when the signal is ‘almost’ good 10% of the time, but good otherwise. It tried, but could work no magic on it.
