When matching show files, if there is an existing show in the database it should be prioritised over other potential matches. For example I have 9 seasons of “The Goldbergs (2013)” and zero episodes of “The Goldbergs” from 196?, if a new show is added to the database with “The Goldbergs S09E02” there is much more chance that it’s the 2013 show not the one from the 60s, and yet if the year is not included for some reason it assumes the top match. Similar problem with Foundation, there are a bunch of shows that match the files but since I’ve already got a show called Foundation (2021) in my library it should be prioritised in the matching.
Couldn’t that be achieved by storing your episodes alongside those existing ones?
If you’re experiencing trouble matching the shows in the first place you can always include the year the show first aired in the show folder’s name (same as with the release year for movies).
I’m a bit worried your suggestion will otherwise just cause the same kind of trouble for users who got both versions of a same-named show.
I don’t think that there would be a problem with having both shows, as it should still take the best match of shows already in the library before looking outside. So if you had both it would most likely match the correct show.
My point was: you already have one and try to add the respective other show…
At that point once you did a fix match on one it would pick up any future items. but you make a good point. I don’t usually add whole shows at once more one at a time.
