I have a show “The Boys” that is being improperly matched. The file is named as follows “The Boys - 2x07 - Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker.mkv” But for some reason it is being matched as “Les Boys (1997)” The data is correct at TheTVDB, but each week it is matched improperly and I need to go manually fix the matching by changing the search to The Movie Database.

Are you deleting prior episodes before adding the next one? If so, try keeping at least one prior episode as well. Plex will think you’re adding another episode to an existing, and already matched show. If you delete all the prior episodes first, Plex has to re-match just like you’re adding it for the first time.

Suggestion:

  • Add the year to the show folder and file names.
  • Follow Plex recommended naming & directory structure (Plex Docs → Your Media).

This works on my system. It matched to “Les Boys” without the year in the folder & file names:

/TV Shows
  /The Boys (2019)
    /Season 01
      /The Boys (2019) - s01e01.mkv
      /The Boys (2019) - s01e02.mkv
