Prism Music, a versatile music player for iOS with Plex support - now available on the App Store

Hello,

I posted here about my music app with Plex support when it entered beta, and now it’s available on the App Store!

Prism is a versatile music player that lets you quickly access, refine and arrange your music to create interesting dynamic playlists.

Available to download for no charge on the App Store, with a one-time purchase to unlock additional features.

  • ACCESS music already on your device or in your iCloud Music Library, or add a free Plex account to stream your music from anywhere in the world.

  • REFINE the songs you want to include in your playlist by adding one or more filters. Filters are similar to iTunes and Plex smart playlists, redesigned for mobile interfaces

  • ARRANGE how you want to view and play your music. Display an artist’s discography as a list of songs or albums; sort artists, albums or songs alphabetically or by popularity and more.

  • PLAY your new playlist using the universal play or shuffle buttons. Songs will be queued using the filters and arrangement you’ve configured.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

• Choose between light and dark themes, or switch automatically

• Configure default sorting for libraries, artists and albums

• Import playlists from iTunes and Plex libraries

• First class iPad support

Just found this app in the AppStore! Love it! The SQ is much better than the stock Plex app! Can we get CarPlay support in iOS 12 for this!? And maybe an EQ? AWESOME work sir! Also left you a 5 star in the AppStore. I have been waiting for an App like this.

Thanks for the kind words, and the review!
What did you search for to find the app if you don’t mind me asking?

I’ll start working on CarPlay after download support is done. I actually received the CarPlay entitlement from Apple today so I’m free to start development on it.

EQ is a bit trickier, I’m not 100% sure the player API I’m using (AVPlayer) provides the required hooks. Something for me to read up on.

I was on the forums here begging the guys at Plex to bring car play functionality. Long story short, I found your original thread from months ago, followed the link and immediately paid the $4.99 for the Plex support. The pure black looks amazing on the iPhone X. Man I’m so happy I found this app, using it now! I have 25,000+ FLAC files on my server and this app works flawlessly. I also have above unlimited on Verizon and the load times for some reason are about 2x as fast in this app vs the stock Plex app.

I’ve started a discussion on the CarPlay app over on reddit

I just recently came across your app in the app store.

It appears very well done, thank you for your efforts.

I have a question though, how did you go about creating a stand-alone plex client?

Did you reverse engineer plex’s API/protocol, or did you get authorization and/or support from the plex team?

Did you use some kind of publicly available plex api documentation?

Before coming across your app, I had considered attempting something similar (create a stand alone plex client), but I hadn’t seen much (or any really) up to date documentation on how to interact with plex at either the client level, or at the server level (ie deprecated plugin functionality).

Nice, glad you like it!

There are no complete docs on the Plex API as far as I know, unfortunately. I basically picked up bits and pieces from other projects (Tautulli etc) and also spent a lot of time reverse engineering the calls made by the web interface (with Chrome dev tools) and iOS app (with Charles proxy).

This page was also very helpful for getting started.

Let me know if you have any questions, would be glad to help.

Will this have TIDAL integration?

Awesome! Testdriving the app now. It would be great if it is possible to download certain albums or songs to the phone, like how Spotify does. Would be a great way to preserve mobile data.

Download support it’s in beta feature since yesterday

No plans currently - I’m unfamiliar with both Android development and Android as a platform.

As @RicardoVelaC mentioned, download support is in (early) beta now. You can sign up here if you’d like to help test

What a pity…

Dam really hoping a 3rd party app sort of like this would come to android

Is there an app like this for android floating around

Unfortunately the app does not remember where it was playing. Is this a bug or someting?

try Yatse

Not a bug - just not implemented yet. It’s at the top of my list though.
