Simply press the search button
Press the playlist you want.
Thats it. The screen will go back to a filtered version of your library with all the songs from your playlist showing and no others. You can now play those songs as is or shuffle them.
The only downside to this is if you have a highly curated playlist that you want played in a specific order. Right now you can’t play that playlist in the order you chose the songs. For me that isn’t really an issue as I shuffle mine all the time, but I could see where this could be an issue for some.
I understand and that works fine. BUT when I’m done listening to songs in that playlist and want to go to another playlist then I can’t press the search button and go to a new playlist.
It says that I need to add a filter which I can’t. Then I need to remove all previous filters (which it added automatically) and then press the search button again.
I feel like I’m going mad here so if it works for you, then please tell me STEP BY STEP HOW YOU SWITCH BETWEEN PLAYLISTS
As I stated previously I do know that it’s possible to do it, but then you need to reset filters all the time which is just bad design in my humble opinion.
It helps if you think of Playlists imported from your Plex Library as Filters and not Playlists.
This app does not have a traditional Playlist function, as you are thinking of it. Instead it treats the list of songs in a Playlist as a Filter. If you select that playlist (Filter) it will then “filter” the library view to show you only the tracks that form that playlist. If you want to select another playist to listen to, you first need to reset the filtered view of your library and then select another Playlist (Filter). If you do not clear the first filter then the second filter will be applied to the already filtered library view, meaning that you could end up with no tracks being shown because there are no common tracks between both filters you just applied.
There is only one automatically added filter and this is called “Music”. This filter cannot be removed and allows you to see all music tracks in your library. No other filters are added automatically. Only you can add a filter other than the default. If you filtered your library the last time you used the app that filter will not be applied the next time you open the app (assuming you actually closed the app instead of leaving it running it the background. Most people do not actually close apps in iOS as they assume using the home button or swiping up from the bottom of the screen closes the app. When the app is running in the background the app isn’t closed so any filters applied previously will still be present when you resume using the app.)
And you’d be right, if a Playlist function really existed in this application. Right now, this app cannot show and play a Playlist. It can only apply a filtered view of the library so you can play the songs in that playlist from the library view. This is fine if you don’t care what order the Playlist is played in. But if you want the tracks contained in that Playlist to be played in the order in which they were added to the playlist then you are out of luck. Plus you cannot create or edit a Playlist. These are all functions of a traditional playlist feature, which this app does not have yet.
I posted on Reddit about this with the Developers, and they are open to exploring new ways of presenting playlists for future versions of the app.
