I got what I think its a Double NAT problem (already checked whatismyip.host and both are different), but when I try to set up everything manually, it does not work
Here is how the hardware is set:
- Both The Server and the TP-Link Archer C9 02 router are physically far from the fiber modem. There is no way for a direct connection.
- There is no way to set the Fiber Modem itself to bridge mode, otherwise, I will lose cable and phone. (my folks are not ready to cut the cable yet).
- the fiber modem is an Askey RTF3507VW-N2
- Everything runs through cable.
As I said, I tried to set up the port forwarding manually. here are the rules I created on both the Fiber Modem and the TP-LINK C9 01 router (C9 02 is already in bridge mode and is merely an access point).
Askey RTF3507VW-N2 fiber modem/router
TP-Link Archer C9 router
So… any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
Sounds like you do have double NAT possibly going on. I have two routers in my home as well but I configured the second one to basically act as a Switch and Access Point. Network cable connecting my second router to the first is plugged into a switch port not the WAN port on the back of the second Router. In the second router config I then have it setup in Bridge mode so it is not acting as a Router.
Thank you! everything is working great now!
After having tried all possible solutions to overcome the double nat problem (without success), I finally called my internet provider.
After explaining my exact problem to the guy in tech support, he provided me with a dynamic (instead of a static) IP.
Half an hour later all my remote access troubles were a thing of the past.
Now when I go to the Plex app, it opens instantly and smoothly and the movie I have decided watch also starts immediately and plays without any issues for its entire duration.
