I’ve learned from my recent problem adding a documentary and did as instructed, i.e. paid attention to the proper category (movie or TV), and then the usual I was already aware of like proper naming conventions as according to TMDB. (also using the Plex TV Series scanner and Plex Series agent here too)
It’s the latest episode of Frontine I’ve named like all my other episodes: Frontline - S2025E07 - Syria’s Detainee Files.mp4)
I also tried using S44E07 since that’s another way they can be named but that didn’t help either.
NB: I have 17 episodes of Frontline in total and all the other were detected fine using the same naming convention and in the same folder with same scanner & agent.
It may be that this is the aftermath of an edit war on TMDB, where different people fought over the way how to number the seasons of this show. One faction wanted to use year numbers the other the absolute sason count.
Ok, will do that.
Although I figured Plex’s scanner & agent aren’t too concerned about those wars and would have just collected whatever info was available at the time of the scan. So there isn’t a thumbnail for example, but the title is definitely there and a brief description of the episode…isn’t it odd that doesn’t get picked up?
If you want to use the year-season numbering you could just set Frontline to use theTVDB for the episode ordering, since that would avoid any TMDB drama.
Personally I hope the “edit war” ends with no change. TVDB ordering is my default on all libraries, but I have Frontline set to use TMDB specifically to avoid the year-season numbering.
The strange this is, it’s just with that one episode that I have a problem.
Anyway, I’ll wait a bit and see if it resolves itself as some have speculated.
Thanks anyway!
