TVDB ordering does not match TVDB for Frontline

I’m not going to make a huge detailed post about this - I noticed my Frontline episodes were totally messed up compared to TVDB. I manually set the series to TVDB Aired ordering and have refreshed the metadata, but it’s still completely out of sync.

With a show of this size, manually adjusting it isn’t an option. For a specific example, S2025E03 is “Battle for Tiber” on TVDB, but on Plex its “The Rise and Fall of Terrorgram.”

Ensure that

  • your file names are actually using the “year” season numbers from TheTVDB
  • your files don’t have (wrong) embedded meta tags which follow TMDB’s episode ordering
  • you have performed a Plex Dance with at least the whole season

Files are appropriately named using using Plex standards and utilize year in place of season (ie S2025E03).

There’s no embedded metadata on the files. I’ve danced the entire series. TVDB Aired is manually selected in show settings. This has happened in the past, in fact there was a post about something similar for another show… I can’t remember off the top of my head, but the issue was Plex not respecting the metadata source setting; ie, changing it to/from TVDB or whatever else wasn’t actually happening. I guess I’ll have to enable debug logging and try to see what’s happening under the hood.

There is no metadata “source” setting if you use the modern metadata agent.
There is only a setting to define the episode ordering.

And i have tested it on my server with exactly these settings and it works and returns the right metadata as the screenshot above demonstrates.

Did you perform all steps of th edance in exactly the right order? This is crucial, or the whole procedure is not effective.
