I am trying to download movies from my Plex server on a Synology DS920+ running DSM 7.2, to an iPhone 12 Pro or an iPad Air 5 running iOS 17, in order to watch them on the plane.
The download fails for “large” movies (>2GB) encoded in HEVC, which have muxed subtitles. The server transcodes and then uploads the movie, but the iOS client displays an error message “The verification of the download has failed” (“La vérification du téléchargement a échoué” in French) and the whole transcode/download process starts over indefinitely.
This does not happen when I download a H264 movie (even a large one with subtitles muxed), or a movie with no subtitles muxed (even a large HEVC one), or a small movie (even HEVC with subtitles muxed). So it seems that the fatal combination is HEVC + subtitles + large file size.
Incidentally, I would rather download the original, but despite my checking the corresponding option on the server, it won’t do… I would settle for a transcoded version if there were a way to get it working.
