Well, actually not music per se. I have three audiobooks ripped, two as OGG files and one as MP3s. All are file-metadata tagged as “Audiobook”, but if I filter in Plex under Audiobook, only one of the OGG sets and the MP3 set show up, the other OGG set doesn’t.
I’ve even retagged the OGGs and rescanned, but it makes no difference. Editing one of the “missing” OGG files via Plex (navigating via Artist) does show it as having “Audiobook” as a genre tag.
Any thoughts?
I can’t see anything wrong. I’ve been quite picky with my genre tagging. I did notice that the default settings are to ignore the files’ genres and instead use those from last.fm, so I inverted that to make it only trust my grenres, and then did a “refresh all”.
While that does seem to have tidied things up a lot (I only see the genres I’ve applied in the filter drop-down now, not dozens of esoteric ones), it’s actually made things worse in this context. Only the MP3 ones show up under Audiobook now!
The OGG ones definitely have Audiobook tags, and I’d expect those to show up in the filter list twice is they were spelt oddly. It’s most perplexing (no pun intended).
I don’t get this. I tried removing and adding Audiobook as a tag to all the “albums”, so they’d get the same value (and only used the auto-complete to side-step any typos). Didn’t fix filtering.
I then noticed the I can’t edit track genres: the only tag available for those is “mood” (and Audiobook doesn’t show up at all at that level).
My next attempt has at least provided a partial work-around, if not a decent solution: I’ve added “Audiobooks” to the three authors’ “Collections” tags. Now at least I can filter on collections. But there seems no other way to create or modify these “collections” (Plex help only seems to mention collections with respect to films).
I also can only set collections tags on artists (authors): that option isn’t available for albums (books).
Am I fundamentally misunderstanding how Plex operates here?
Hah, right, got it. It was [sort of] me being a numpty.
I had the Music view set to Artists, so it was only showing artists with the Audiobook genre tag! Somehow mine weren’t set consistently.
As soon as I switched to Album view, the Audiobook genre filter kicked in properly.
Which, in hindsight, is somewhat obvious, but not hugely!
