It seems like there is a problem matching the series “Super Kickers 2006 – Captain Tsubasa” (German Version of Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002).
Plex Series Agent finds the TMDB entry, but not TVDB.
When it matches TMDB, all the episode titles and descriptions are missing.
Local assets and metadata are disabled for this library, also a .plexmatch file containing the TVDB id does not work.
A search from “match correction” always leads to the TMDB entry.
The series episode ordering only gives me the option “The Movie Database (Aired)”, while the TVDB Aired ordering should also be available.
Is there anything else I can do or is it some kind of API issue?
I have waited 72h and the behavior changed “somehow” - it now grabs the episode info from TMDB fine.
But, TVDB episode titles/description/thumbnails are still not available (they have better quality and translation). Episode ordering in advanced settings still only shows “library standard” and “The Movie Database (Aired)”
I remember there was a time when TVDB removed the series page (Super Kickers 2006) and put it as Seasons to this series (Captain Tsubasa): キャプテン翼 - TheTVDB.com
But they have somehow reactivated キャプテン翼 - TheTVDB.com
Maybe there is some kind of mixup going on? Same japanese name, different links
So, plex uses a consolidated metadata approach now with their modern scanner/agent. There is no way to tell plex, go get metadata from a specific online source like tvdb. They pull metadata from multiple sources including imdb, tvdb, tmdb and some others and then THEY rank this data (criteria for this ranking to my knowledge has never been shared) and then that is what you get. This is why those external ids at tmdb linking to imdb / tvdb are important. Anyhow, all you can control is the ordering of the episodes if they differ between sites but the core metadata is the same.
In saying all that, I did create this post over at tmdb Reported Problem for Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002 - Discuss Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002 — The Movie Database (TMDB) as I too noticed the titles and summaries having bad translations (very bad actually). I did not want to just change without giving a moderator time to comment. So far no one has commented so I might wait a few more days and then just update them based on tvdb data, which is better. That may help in getting better data into plex as it may have ranked the current tmdb data within its own metadata system.
