Plex TV Series Agent refuses to match a TVDB/TMDB listed 2023 Series

I have my libraries set to use the new Plex TV Series Agent set for “Agent” and “Scanner” I have my episode ordering set to: TVDB

The show in question is TVDB ID# 436040 Trippin’ With Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris

Release year: (2023)

When I switch my library’s agent to TVDB it matches the series instantly. However I would prefer to stick with the new agent and am only having issues with this one series.

I have tried entering the TVDB ID 436040 in the format tvdb-436040 in the title but it doesn’t not match anything. And I can’t select another agent to match against for this series (or any series) when using the match feature as the drop down menu only allows Plex TV Series as the only option from within the match series window.

How can I resolve this without resorting to changing my agent back to the old TVDB scanner? I have never had any issues matching a series that is listed in the TVDB and TMDB databases. Is there a step that I am missing?

Again, the TVDB agent matches this title perfectly. I just don’t want to change my entire library Agent for this one series refusing to match with the Plex TV Series Agent

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is this brand new? Plex needs about 3 days to list newly entered data.
I can’t verify because TVDB seems to be OoO for me.

6/22/23 when should I expect metadata to update. I thought plex tv series was in sync with TVDB and TMDB the show is on both of them

Release doesn’t matter. Only the date when it was added to TVDB.

I’m having the same problem with Derren Brown: The Specials - TheTVDB.com

When I use the Plex Series agent with the Plex TV Series scanner, the show is recognized and I get a show title and poster, but there’s just no information on any of the seasons/episodes.

When I switch to TheTVDB agent / Plex Series Scanner scanner, everything has metadata: there are episode names and posters.

That show doesn’t exist on TMDB so you don’t get episode info

All of the Derren Brown specials on TVDB are actually listed as movies on TMDB

i.e. Derren Brown: The Specials - s01e07 - The System ← TVDB (tv show)

Derren Brown: The System (2008) TMDB ← movie

I’m sure many of the entries are also represented as movies, with movie metadata, but this is a TV Shows library, with a “Series” agent and scanner and the show has some metadata so it should be showing up. In fact the metadata that does come (name, series poster) matches TheTVDB so it looks like at least something is coming from there.

Edit the show (not season or episode) and choose TVDB Aired episode order.

I use TVDB aired episode order on every single show I have since my entire collection is TV and 100% of it is handled via Sonarr. This is advisable correct?

*Update 6/25/23

-The show’s Metadata matched and was added overnight without issue.

For clarification should TV Shows be set to TVDB (aired order) for episode ordering? Is this the most common setting for TV Series which are controlled via Sonarr? Also, does the Agent setting (left column) have any meaning when the new Plex TV agent is being used? I don’t quite understand what local assets are and which order the agents should be in. I do not supply my own album art, etc.

Sure enough this is the solution. Even though the show was present on TVDB and TMDB and IMDB it took an extra day to bring the metadata over while using the new Plex agent. Very happy it is now matched without any input form myself.

There should however be a way to easily enter the tvdb/tmdb ID# in the title area to match the series as the Plex docs say it’s possible.

But this just isn’t true with the new plex agent. Shows used to be easily matched when you could enter the ID# in the title box (i.e. tvdb-123456) (when I was using the old agent)

Regardless of the show, the new agent does not permit or recognize the use of the TVDB ID in the title for matching purposes. Most likely because the drop down menu in the matching form cannot be changed from Plex TV Series when matching.

Yes, it’s true.
But doing so doesn’t cause the agent to go out directly and only to e.g. TheTVDB and fetch the data immediately from there. The data still need to make it into Plex’s unified metadata cache first, which takes a few days.

Not true.
You can use the TVDB ID to match a show, just as you can use the TMDB ID.
You can even put the ID into the folder name to get it used automatically. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

My mistake. I couldn’t render results because it wasn’t in the database yet. Once it’s in, all works perfectly as you stated. Thanks

Oh, neat! That worked for me, thanks!

A bit weird that Plex doesn’t choose a fallback episode ordering if the default is missing, but at least I have a manual workaround
