Hi, I’ve got a problem with the tvdb agent too.
For me meta data is correctly loading for the configured language (german) … except cover art.
Any new show I add won’t retrieve cover art. There has been a strange case where one of the shows received cover art for the very first season. For this specific case I have attached the plex media server logs truncated to about when I triggered a refresh on the show’s metadata. I also searched through the logs, but I am quite unsure if there is anything that could help. I, myself, have found nothing which looks suspicious.
Hi @Mystes - Unfortunately, I’ll need more of your logs to get you a good answer on what’s going on. Can you DM me a complete set of logs (Server, Scanner, and Plugin) from just after a refresh of any show you are having trouble with?
Ok, i’m not sure if this will help, but myself and our programmer (at work) spent some hours today trying things…
We loaded Plex on an UBUNTU server without a VPN, and noticed “Remote Access” was available… I usually have Remote Access turned off on my main system as i use VPN for everything.
I tried to enable remote access on my usual machine, but no matter what, it would not connect, even with identical settings, except… THE VPN…
We then tried to access the pages the log showed were being accessed for TVDB that were failing from the VPN machine, in a browser on a non VPN machine, and they loaded. On the VPN plex machine, they timed out.
Our programmer suggests either there is an SSL issue between the plex VPN machine as per the hint in the logs, or there is a DNS issue accessing through the VPN, like the ip range is blocked. He suggests he has seen cloudflare being used on other sites and adding captcha’s to web pages that don’t usually have them, which (as in this case) would cause a time out or failure…
My question is, everyone that is having the issues, are your PLEX machines running through a VPN?
and @maxflix in the upgrades, have you guys added any security (https) or dns security (like cloudflare)?
Well, after another few hours of testing and trying things, i uninstalled the latest version, and installed 9.16.6.1993 and surprise surprise, most of my problem shows AUTOMATCHED upon clicking update library and the rest allowed me to click match or fix incorrect match and they auto matched immediately…
My suggestion to anyone with the TVDB and metadata issue, ROLL BACK TO version 0.9x
Just go to add/remove programs and uninstall Plex Media Server, then go to your AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates directory and find a version 0.9 something, (i can cerify 0.9.16.6.1993 works), then double click it to install. DONE
So, since 0.9.16 we have added both HTTPS and CloudFlare has been added on the TVDB side (it sits in front of their v2 API). I would be curious to see if you installed 1.0.0 to see if your issues are fixed - that would have the HTTPS change, but still use TVDB v1 API. If 1.0.0 works for you, then I’ll reach out to TVDB and see if they can make adjustments to their CloudFlare cache, though, I obviously can’t make any promises.
I’m still getting all the metadata after changing to google’s DNS servers. No timeouts in logs…
Tried changing back this morning before scanning and voila, host resolves to a different ip again and log says tvdb timeout… no metadata. Changing back and rescanning fixed metadata instantly.
The problem started for me on V1.0.0 @maxflix hence why i went back to v0.9.16.1993 so given that and the log stating ssl error, i would say it is a https causing the issue?
i have really large libraries. I noticed this problem with 1.0.2 because i was upgrading my anyme library, and was getting more miss than hits when scanning new episodes. I’ve upgraded to 1.0.3 because i saw in changelog that tvdb scraper was going to use english when no other results where found (i use italian language in library).
That wasn’t working either. I have to do a manual scan for every episode that is not getting scraped, wait for the first scan in italian, then click on search options, select english, redo the scrape, then it finds the episode on tvdb. But its dedious and time consuming when you get a lot of episodes a week
I have a question only partially related to this. Is there any way to get another language title, or the AKA title, instead of the main one, when scraping tvdb? I mean, i love to have original japan title for anime (that is in the AKA field on tvdb), instead of the translated italian/english one. But i dont want the synopsis in japanese, and often there is no japanese text on tvdb either…
@Wiidesire - some people were having issues accessing TVDB due to their login token expiring before their cache did, so they just kept getting the same expired token.
I’m waiting this time before trying it. 1.02 broke it, rolled back. 1.03 still had it broken, had to roll back, 1.1.0 still had it broken, had to roll back. I’m going to sit back till a few people say it’s fixed this time.
@Wiidesire i gave up and rolled back, and, like @Eurisko69, i am going to wait until a few others say theirs (that was broken) is now fixed with the latest version before i waste any more time on it…
