All of the sudden tv show metadata not loading

Day like everyday but all of the sudden Plex won’t load metadata for two new episodes.
I’ve tried the usual Plex Dance, refreshing, forcing, etc, etc.
Pulled following info from logs:

Everything was working yesterday.

Same for me as well this morning. Either the TheTVDB API is down or something changed…

I’ve been having issues for about 15 hours now. It appears to be a problem with the TVDB API. If I hit http://api.thetvdb.com directly, 1 out of 3 times, I get a 522 connection time out.

EDIT: Literally every 3rd time I hit it, it times out.

That explains a lot. I’ve checked Plex status first, forgot about tvdb api. Works for me 50ish%.

Good to know this is happening to others as well because I made no changes to my system between Thursday (3/15) and Friday (3/16) and on Thursday I added new media with no issue. When I tried on Friday the metadata never loaded and when I looked in the log got the same errors as in this thread. Was trying to figure out why this would have happened out of the blue, so that makes sense.

This is pretty consistent for me now, none of my new episodes are getting metadata :confused:

Just checked TheTVDB.com forums and somebody did make a post about getting the 522 connection timeout error. Hopefully that will get seen by somebody that can do something and they will resolve it quickly.

Going to assume this is why poster art wont work for some series and works for others?

Thank goodness it isn’t just me. I was going crazy trying to figure out why it wasn’t working.

Not just you… I’ve had some luck with re-matching individual Series with the movie database agent instead of thetvdb, but that’s a huge pain and just not “right…” though it does look like it might be on the thetvdb.com side. Hopefully it clears soon.

My metadata is not updating anymore too. Yesterday it was working great… Hope it gets resolved soon.

api is still responding with 50ish % ratio and the site gives 503.

Seems to be working again. There is no official confirmation issue has been solved but api respons and I was able to match episode.

@ChuckPA responded in this thread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/313931/thetvdb and he let the operations team know. He said they were working on it, so it looks like they might have gotten a fix in. I just refreshed something I added last night (I got another show to work so thought it was good, but turned out to still be messed up). I have something else I need to add, so I’ll see if that new episode matches and then update my post.

Edit: And what I just added matched with no issue as well, so hopefully that means they put a fix in for this. I do have a new season of an episode I need to add so I’ll try that in a few and see what happens with that.

Edit 2: I was able to add the new season with no issue.

If it comes to worst-case,

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Go into the metadata directory/folder and find Caches
  3. Delete everything in there. I’m sure it’s full of failed/partial download attempts from this event
  4. Start PMS
  5. Force Refresh Metadata on everything which needs it

This issue has cropped up today for me again. Anyone else struggling today? Early this morning, no problem. But the past 2 hours, I got nothing…

Clearing the cache does not do anything. All that occurs is a forever spinning metadata tag icon (not forever, but about 3-5 minutes) and then a “Finished Processing” with no data loaded.

The operations team is having a hella time with the provider interface. A yoyo would be more soothing .
