problem with poster

For some reason I’m having trouble getting Plex to put the posters on The series Legion
the episodes metadata is correct but the poster is blank I have removed and re added it several times and no luck… tried with tvdb and moviedb no luck

  1. Local Media Assets agent enabled?
  2. User plex has permission to read the file?
  3. Have you verified your name is compliant with https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220717-local-media-assets-tv-shows/ ?

yes to all 3 questions … however i created a new tv library put it in there and it pulled the poster and then moved it back and I’m assuming at the point Plex had cached it… not sure…

does Plex have a limit to the amount of shows in a library i have 26 is there a limit>

I have 143 series in my Series section. There is no limit.

Can you show me, ls -la, the structure and one such example in situ?

the structure of the library .D:\Legion\Season 1\Legion - 1x01 - Chapter 1.mkv

And you have:

D:\Legion\Season 1\
  Legion - 1x01 - Chaper 1.mkv
  Season01.jpg

With Local Media Assets enabled?

yes to local assists

No to the season 01.jpg being in the directory… unless Plex doesn’t put it in the directory or hides it?

the only thing in the directory is the files themselves

Go here please and see how things are donw https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220717-local-media-assets-tv-shows/

hmm so if i’m reading this correctly if i have an image file named correctly it’ll use that… never done that before all posters came from either TVDB or moviedb wonder if my agents are setup wrong

If you download the image, rename it properly, set permissions to 644 (so plex can read it), and move into position, PMS will pick it up in the next scan.

If you are following that sequence in order, something else is going sideways and I’ll need the logs

yeah i understand I just never needed to download the poster art or any image before myself it always came from TVDB Or MovieDB

When Plex downloads for you, it’s kept in the .bundle directory with the rest of the metadata.
If you want to dig through it, you can decode the URL from the XML and find out where it is but, speaking from experience, it’s not worth it.
The Scan, Empty, Clean, Optimize sequence is much easier and works except for those cases where something needs to be ‘danced’.

I think it’s the new update, because none of my new tv shows I added after the update doesn’t have posters. They have all the other info

Then re-install the older version and see if functionality is restored

I didn’t see any logs attached, but this could very possibly be related to the thetvdb API having issues and receiving the 404 error when trying to download posters.

this is happening to me on different servers with the same data which is all matched and lacking posters for different shows that display fine on another server using the same exact data. ie, the shield is missing posters for X show, but that library is mounted from my fileserver where X show is fine but Y show is missing the poster, and all the data is mirrored to another server where X and Y are fine, but it’s Z that’s the problem. last time the shield updated I had to go through almost everything to force metadata updates and manually pick posters. Everything was fine before last plex update Version 1.13.2.5102, doing multiple rematch/metadata refreshes mostly helps. All media agents active, thetvdb seems to be picking up the stragglers.

Just updated to new version v1.13.2.5102 last night and added a series this morning and having the same problem. Seems to load all the other metadata fine, such as show description, episode titles, and episode descriptions, but no posters are downloaded. Tried multiple times to unmatch/rematch and also refresh metadata. Also tried Plex Dance (remove, delete, clean bundles, readd) and same thing continues to happen.

TV Series posters are a known TheTVDB problem. Their API is having issues beyond our control.

The workaround (temporary) is to edit the library section to TMDB and “Plex Dance” the new media

Plex Dance:

  1. Edit Library section to use TMDB
  2. Move media file(s) to unmonitored area
  3. Scan
  4. Empty Trash
  5. Clean Bundles
  6. [Optionally Optimize DB]
  7. Move media back into position
  8. Scan and observe it matching.

This will not impact existing media
