TV posters won't download...depending on the PMS

I run a few plex servers side by side. All have the same settings, a few were installed at the same time, all pulling from the same media storage. I finally decided to test this because it kept happening…

I added a new TV show. I scanned the TV show section on every server within a couple minutes of each other. Only 1 of the servers pulls the TV shows’ poster, the rest pull metadata and no poster. I then have to go in manually and add/link the show to a poster. This is easily reproducible and has been going on for about 2 months now.

Any recommendations? Any logs I should post?

Bumping. Tested it again, still happening, easily reproduced.

yeah not getting metadata for tv episodes either… doctor who in specific

I scanned Dr Who (2005) and Dr Who (original) series night before last and both worked without issues or manual intervention… Shows properly named?

Yeah everything is named right on my end. Like I said, it is just some of the servers that do it, the other one is fine. This only started happening recently. Plus, the metadata is pulled, the only thing missing is the poster which is weird.

Attached logs. I added a new show (Taboo, 2017) and copied the logs right after I ‘fixed match’. There is a horizontal line in the log, I added that, everything below it should be after I manually added the poster.

I’ll recreate and post the full logs. This happens every time I add a new show on certain servers (but others will work…tested by adding the same show on 2 different servers at the same time) so it definitely isn’t a network connection to the databases.

Attached are scanner logs from two different servers. One server downloaded the poster (Scanner 1), the other did not (Scanner 2). The show added was ‘Voltron - Legendary Defender’.

Bumping. Any thoughts?

I’ll export the whole logs and send them over when I add a new show.

This is happening when adding a new series to the server, never before added.

I PM’d you the logs from two servers, one which downloaded the metadata and one that did not. The show in question is ‘Taken 2017’.

From the PMS 1 logs:

2017-02-26 22:19:09,894 (c18) : INFO (logkit:16) - Error fetching JSON from The Movie Database: http://127.0.0.1:32400/services/tmdb?uri=%2Fmovie%2Ftt0120667%2Fimages
2017-02-26 22:19:09,897 (c18) : CRITICAL (core:574) - Exception in the update function of agent named 'Plex Movie', called with guid 'com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt0120667?lang=en' (most recent call last):

This is what is preventing posters and metadata to be added to your library.

Stop Plex from running on the appropriate machine, then go to: C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Caches\com.plexapp.agents.imdb and delete everything form that folder.

Restart Plex and attempt to refresh some files that are missing posters etc. You may need to Plex Dance the files in question.

Plex Dance (© OttoKerner):

  1. Remove offending files from your Plex Media Folder. (Make sure Plex is not aware of the files)
  2. Update Library (Not ‘Refresh All’)
  3. Optimise Database
  4. Empty Trash
  5. Clean Bundles
  6. Replace offending files into Plex Media Folder.
  7. Update Library

Wait for each step to complete before moving to the next step.

Removed the folder and added a brand new show, never seen before on the server, but the poster still didn’t download. Should I delete thetvdb cache files as well?

I tested at every PMS iteration and still had the same results. This is rather interesting…

I did try changing the WAN address but that doesn’t work either. It’s odd because the one server will always download the posters and other server will never retrieve posters.

I’ll check all of those just to be sure and get back to you. I actually have more than 2 servers running and this issue is consistent across all of them (2 pull posters, the rest do not).

Even if they aren’t requesting the info at the same time? You would think that some of the servers that don’t ever retrieve posters would at some point grab one.

I checked all the firewall settings, routing, etc. and didn’t find anything unusual, incorrect, or different from the servers that are retrieving posters.

Yeah definitely, next time I add a new show I’ll send everything your way.

Do you think repairing the database will have any effect?
