Hi,
Plex uses a temporary directory for transcoding which is located on my Nvidia Shield Pro 2029, but I have very little space available on this device (6 GiB). All movies that are larger than 6 GiB, Plex refuses to transcode them which is normal.
When I want to define in the settings a temporary directory located on a hard drive attached to the Shield (Hard drive that receives PMS data) Plex ignores this and continues to want to transcode directly into the Shield.
At first I thought Plex ignored the temporary directory on my external drive, in fact it isn’t. Plex uses my temporary directory well but once the transcoding process is done, Plex brings the file back from my external drive to the main partition of my Shield. Which brings me back to the original problem, there isn’t enough space! Changing the location of the temporary directory is useless in my case.
I moved my PMS to the Shield’s internal partition, then swapped my hard drive with a 128 GiB USB stick. I formatted it in “Shield internal partition” mode. I moved all of my apps to this new virtual internal Shield partition, so now I have plenty of space to do the transcoding.
