Problems Naming my Files please help

Hi All,

I’m having what are probably some very basic issues and I’m hoping someone on here can help me.

I have a collection of video clips either recorded by myself or by friends and I wish to organise them, as I know they are not on any DB and as they structure like a TV show I have put them into Plex as TV shows and used the local media Assests as the Agent. however no matter how I name the files the episode name is always either episodeX or a date, and never the name I have typed in to the actual file.

my files are all MKV files and I am now at a total loss…

any help please? do I need to manually enter the names into plex? if I do, is there a seperate software than can help me?

Edit: sorry forgot to give an example…

my stucture is

root/.
  video files/. 
    cups/. (this is where the plex Library is pointed)
      Johns version/.
        Show.jpg
        Season 01/.
          Johns Version - S01E01 - routine one.mkv (this shows as episode 1" in plex)
          Johns Version - S01E02 - routine two.mkv (this shows as a date in plex)
