Problems updating to new github install

I've been trying to update to the newest plexconnect from github

However after unzipping and trying to open plexconnect.py. I get the python script to open for a second and then it closes.

I thought this could have been to a bad install of python so I deleted and downloaded version 2.7.6 and tried again. Same thing occurs.

I am not sure what to try at this point. I've searched the forums but can't find any help there.

Thanks in advance

Try opening a command window, navigating to the right directory and starting it using that.

I may be using the cmd function incorrectly. But I was unable to make a difference.

Thank you for the quick reply!

What are you typing in the command window?
Does the window not stay on the screen so you can see any error?

The python window does not stay open.

I tried a couple different things with command prompt. start plexconnect.py

and i tried copy pasting the directory location as well. C:\Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master\PlexConnect.py

I don't know how to use cmd though. Only ip config release/renew.

Not the Python window, the cmd window.

Change to the directory then in a separate command start the Python script.

Use “cd thepathtoyourfolder”

Sorry just to clarify

cd Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master\PlexConnect.py

is what i enter into the cmd window?

C:\> cd Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master\PlexConnect.py is what i have been trying

Sorry just to clarify

cd Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master\PlexConnect.py

is what i enter into the cmd window?

C:\> cd Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master\PlexConnect.py is what i have been trying

Remove PlexConnect.py from what you are trying to enter to change directory then enter “PlexConnect.py” to run the script

thank you so much for your patience and explanation. I really appreciate it
this is what resulted

Looks like the Settings.cfg file was created by a different owner or has ReadOnly status - or it might still be open in some weird acting application.
For a quick test... just rename it (adding BAK or so) and try again. PlexConnect should then be able to create a new one and run properly. You might have to adapt your settings later, then restart PlexConnect.

So I tried to change settings.py to settings.bak as there wasn't a settings.cfg file in the folder (is that the problem? do i need to create this file?) and that didn't allow the plexconnect.py to do anything at all.

Don’t mess with settings.py!

Settings.cfg is created on first run and graceful shutdown it looks like you may need to change the PlexConnect folder permissions to allow read and write for it and it’s contents.

Thank you so much! It was indeed the permission! Got that sorted out now the next step

"Failed to access certificate" I used open SSL and the iphone utility on my apple tv after the last apple update. Do I need to do this again now? Or is this another small issue?

I really appreciate everyone's patience and assistance. This has been one of the best forums I've ever posted on for help. I shall pay it forward when my understanding of operating plex is on par with your levels.

Thank You once again

Did you remember to dump the matching files in the PlexConnect certs folder?

I get this (trailers.perm is in the certificates folder)

Its not finding my plex server?

I uninstalled everything reinstalled, ensured the permissions were correct and everything is up and working.

Thank you once again f00b4r and Baa without you I'd have been lost. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

>> Its not finding my plex server?

It's not looking for it - before you enter trailers...
