Problems With Nature Documentaries being Recognised By the NAS Plex Media Server

Server Version#: Version 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: 3.77.2

Hello everyone,
I am having a lot of difficulty getting Plex to recognise a number of Nature documentaries.

Although some are small scale several are not, done by the BBC with the likes of David Attenborough and Gordon Buchanan, etc.

Examples are:

Example 1 “Reindeer Family And Me”

I have it set as:
Folder:Reindeer Family & Me
File: Reindeer Family & Me S01E01 Episode 1 (Filebot, came up with this name and it usually gets it right but I tried removing the latter part but it didn’t help)

However, the documentary is not appearing in Plex, nor anything else I can see which could be it by mistake!

Example 2: Flying Monsters 3D with David Attenborough (2011)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1777610/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Folder: Flying Monsters 3D with David Attenborough (2011)
File: Flying Monsters 3D With David Attenborough (2011)

Again Plex can’t seem to see it at all, and nothing changes if I remove the 3D part btw.

I could give several other famous examples. Plus I have a load of other Nature Documentaries to rip from DVDs so I am worried I will end up not being able to see dozens of programs.

Naturally I have told it to Scan Library Files many times and also had it refresh metadata once to see if that would help but to no avail.

The Library Type is set to TV Shows; and is named “Nature”
Collections: Show Collections and their items
Seasons: Show
Agent: I have tried both “The TVDB” and “The Movie Database”
Country: United Kingdom (although I did try changing this to US but it made no difference.)

Anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Failing that can someone tell me how to manually add a program into a particular folder (in this instance I have labelled the Library “Nature”.

Many thanks
Lancashire Lad

I haven’t yet figured out the Flying Monsters part however

Your filename “Reindeer Family & Me” is missing the delimiters

“Reindeer Family & Me - S01E01 - Episode 1.ext”

I set the naming rule in filebot to take this into consideration.

Thank you, will give that a try!

Many thanks! Adding Season or Series Subfolder helps but the big thing appears to be adding S01E01 even if it is a one off TV movie. Also in one case Filebot added the name again after the S01E01 and it then recognised it. As in:

“Wild Tales From The Village S01E01 Wild Tales From The Village”

Finally, the Reindeer One was still puzzling me until I spotted that although I had it down as

The Reindeer & I in both file name and program name the Series 1 name had it as The Reindeer “and” I. Once I changed that it recognised it. So far I have not needed to go further down your list but as other problems show up, I have a road map now, many thanks for taking the trouble, it’s much appreciated.

I was amazed to find that these one-off documentaries are listed on www.thetvdb.com. The OCD types that run thetvdb.com previously always insisted that a one-off TV drama was a movie & had no place on their site. It was perfectly acceptable if it had been shown in two parts even if they were broadcast on the same day.

Thank you ChuckPA, trumpy81, mentioned that and it did indeed work. Also I had named the series/season folder using “And Me” instead of “& Me”. Once those to problems were solved it recognised it.

So Far the only one I cannot work out is the BBC program “Life In The Snow”
I cannot find it in TVDB and Filebot cannot seem to find it.
I have tried all the tricks that worked before
Season 1 folder
Life In The Snow S01E01 File
Life In The Snow S01E01 Life In The Snow

But so far nothing

Finally got it to accept Life in the snow.

No, that is appreciated. I now have 2 dvds which were done by a local naturalist. They are on sale in Amazon but I can find no sign of them anywhere re the various databases.

Is it possible to manually add a file/program to Plex?

Here is one of them

The Secret Life Of The Sparrowhawk

Great! Thanks!
