I’ve been trying to access my Plex server from my Hisense Android TV at work for the past week with no success. I can’t even access it from the Plex app on my Samsung cellphone even if I’m at home on my own network. I can access the server from the browser on the TV or phone at work or any computer at home or work but not those darn Android apps.
The apps on my Samsung and LG TV’s along with my 2 Roku’s all work fine, it just seems to be the Android app that’s being fussy. I tried looking for settings in the app to allow for a manual connection and found it on the phone but it had no effect. I tried allowing an insecure connection on the phone and it changes from “Server Unavailable” to “Error Loading Content”.
The Android TV app doesn’t have the same feature to allow for a manual connection so I couldn’t try there but I have it set to allow insecure connections just in case that’s the issue but it had no effect. I’m not sure whats going on here. It makes no sense that I can connect one way but not another. Anyone else have this issue and find a solution?
Server Version#: 4.22.3
Player Version#: 7.31.0.16802 (Same version on both TV and Phone)
My problem is still present. I’ve restarted the server, restarted the modem and restarted the router and there was no change. The Plex app on my sisters Samsung TV and parents LG TV also work and they are remote locations so my server is working correctly. I just don’t understand why this is only effecting my Android TV and Android phone.
Yes, I can view movies from Plex just not anything on my server. There is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point next to my server.
I updated the app this morning but that had no effect. I can get to Plex and see everything on my server using the browser, it’s just the app that doesn’t work.
I uploaded the logs from my phone. I have it set to always allow insecure connections and sometimes there is a yellow triangle with exclamation point next to a grayed out library and other times the library is clickable but it says Error Trying To Connect or Server Unavailable.
i see a timeout trying to reach your server at 192.168.1.4 but can’t figure out why. Do you have a pretty standard network set up, No VPNs, reverse proxies or such correct?
do you have multiple local subnets? i see a 192.168.191.255
No VPN’s or reverse proxies and it’s not a double NAT. The server is plugged directly into my Linksys EA9500.
My router shows my subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and I have port 32400 manually forwarded. The weird thing is that it works remotely for everything except my Android app.
Still trying to troubleshoot. I opened port 8080 on my router and set the port forwarding and tested it as working on my desktop but couldn’t get it to work setting the manual connection on the android app on my phone.
Landwehr_Home…I’ve not liked the experience so far with the Android version of Plex. I was a long time user on a Roku box and recently bought an Android TV (Sony) but Plex is fussy A LOT. I just had an experience yesterday where the TV wouldn’t pick up my Plex Media Server content. I (like you) rebooted everything to no avail. Clear all the data and cache on the TV…no luck there either. As a last resort, I uninstalled the app on the TV, rebooted the TV, reinstalled the app and (tah dah) everything came back to life. Because of these bad experiences with this Android based app, I ordered a new Roku this morning. I don’t know if the Plex team will be able to fix this issue or not (there was just an update to the Android Plex app last week). As for me, I’m done with the Android version. Good luck!
