Problems with TV Shows associated to wrong series

Server Version#: 1.52.1.3195-a0c4d5e9
Player Version#: 1.52.1.3195-a0c4d5e9
Having issue with series episodes showing up randomly on wrong series.
Randomly placing mutil s1 e1’s under wrong series altogether.
Any ideas how to solve this.
Have unmatched and fixed match and that does not help.
Shows not ever related from different shows and episodes randomly.
Thanks.

It is usually a matter of

  1. using the prescribed file naming and folder structure Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support
  2. selecting the right folder level for the Plex library “root”

Please show some examples for both.

I have a backup on the plex server files on this drive under but this just a backup.
Not all tv shows are misaligned only some.
The one I have displayed is misaligned .

The first and the third screen shot are irrelevant for the issue.

  1. verify that your tv shows library is only pointed at the folder TV Shows. Not even a single folder level above, nor below it. Check it by editing the library, and then going to the tab labelled “Add Folders”.
Do not add a tv show’s folder individually to your library.
  2. your file names do contain spaces between the season and episode codes. This is not supported. Remove those space characters.
  3. Add at least the release year of a tv show to its main folder name, e.g. 68 Whiskey (2020)

So, are you saying that TV Shows has to be off of the root of the drive?
We have used this naming convention for at least 4 years with no problems.
Now it does not work?

What makes you think that?
I told you above to point the library to the folder named TV Shows.

Current setup.

OK, that appears to be correct. (Although I recommend people to better completely avoid the pre-made media folders in Windows.)

Which leaves the file and folder naming issues.

While you are in the properties of your library, on the Advanced tab, verify that the checkbox “Prefer local metadata” is clear.

Once you have fixed the issues for at last one series, try the Plex Dance with this series.

The new Plex agents seem to be a little more picky

I have never had to add the date to the main folder before either but I’m running into that now also

TV Shows/68 Whiskey (2020)/Season 01/68 Whiskey - S01e01 - Buckley’s Goat.mp4

The Show title I just added, it’s not necessary

It can also be something like 68 Whiskey.S01E01.mp4

Or 68 Whiskey S01E01.mp4

The S01E01 is the important part

Try this program if you have a lot of shows to rename. It’s free and pretty easy to use. The default naming structure it gives you works fine

Rename My TV Series

Thank you so much for your help!

"Prefer local metadata: was checked ON I turned it off just now.

Did all those steps. Did not work.

This is a real problem.

Check your server database file for damage.

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

I have removed the TV Show (show1234), directory completely it is gone.
I removed the TV show from the Plex server by deleting it within the plex software.
No show anywhere.
It deleted the shows that were mis associated to the show that no longer exist.
Then copied back the shows that do not belong to the show that was deleted.
So, the show is still missing.
Launched the plex server and the deleted show reappears with only mis aligned shows
associated with it.
I will try the above steps.
Thanks.

Your steps don’t match the Plex Dance correctly.
Perform all steps, in the noted order, or the exercise will be in vain.

I already did those steps earlier and it did not help at all.

Plex Media Server.1.log (5.9 MB)
Plex Tuner Service.log (1.8 KB)
new logs.

Then check the database.

Did you copy those media files over to their place while Plex server was already running and it was set to automatically update its library?

The server was running yes, I do not know if it is set to update automatically or not.

Settings - Server - Library

I think it is activated. You seem to have also some software active to synchronize folders. And it’s putting some status file of itself into each of your media folders.
And this change in the file system is triggering an automatic library scan

You want to avoid too frequent (and useless) library scans.
Particularly while a media file copy is in progress. Because otherwise Plex may scan incompletely copied files and generate a “signature” of them. However, the beginning of video files is very similar, because they all use the same container format. So Plex might mistake videos from different series to belonging into the wrong series.
All because it is scanning the library during file copies all the time.

So, disable FreeFileSync,
Disable the automatic library scans
Remove all the shows which intermingled
repeat the Plex dance and add shows one by one

I couldn’t find any signs of DB damage.
