Progam guide information in New Zealand (NZXMLTV)

I’ve been wrestling with EPG Collector (which is what I used to use for MediaPortal) but this is a god send for us Kiwi’s. It works perfectly!

Thank you so much your a legend!

Like @Declan-Murphy, I don’t actually use plex these days, but have been using Emby for several years. I came across this forum today but can’t figure out how to update the xmltv file on a schedule. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
I have been using EPGCollector up until now and like the look of this and would like to change.
Also any tips for setting it up in Emby would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t personally use Emby, but follow the general documentation here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Xml-Tv

Simply add the XMLTV url from the main post into the URL field and Emby will handle the updating for you.

For movies, enter Movie|Feature|Features. Leave movie prefix blank. For children categories enter Children|Preschool|Children's, for news categories enter News and for sport enter Sport|Sports|Rugby|Soccer|Golf|Cycling|Cricket|Fight Sport|League|Motorsport|Athletics|Watersports|Tennis.

Wow, thanks so much for your prompt reply, much appreciated. I guess I was over thinking it.

Update:

I’ve been playing round (a lot) trying different scenarios out.

At the moment I’ve settled on using NextPVR using xmltv from - https://nzxmltv.gith…tv/guide-v2.xml

I then set NPVR to enable artwork from the internet - just selecting The TVDB

In Emby I did nothing except using the plugin of course.

The result is now the best looking guide I’ve ever had.

There were a few programs that had landscape art but after doing a google for images 680 X 1000 I managed to fix most of them.

I didn’t mind the generic posters for the programs that will probably never get dedicated art.

If you want, I’m able to manually override these shows, just let me know the titles and I can fix them in the guide itself.

Other than that I’m pleased that you are happy with it!

Hi shea9872

Thanks for your reply.

The ones I have found replacements for are – Breakfast (TV1), Doctor Doctor (TV1), Love Island UK and Q+A (TV1)

I can send you the art I have if that will help.

The only landscape art I have now is Anika Moa Unleashed (TV1). I have modified this to be slightly narrower.

Note: I only tune in about 9 channels as I don’t watch any of the advertising and home decorating channels, so my art may not be of much use to others.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

I have now stopped using EPG Collector as it was always complicated to set up and never gave me the results that yours does. J

Cheers

Rikiwi

Hey guys,

Im looking at setting up DVR and want to know what the best setup for use in NZ?

Is HDhomerun the only option that people have working?

I personally use the Hauppage Quad tuner PCIe card, but any dvb-t tuner should work

Hi everyone.

I’ve just pushed a major update to the Freeview XMLTV. The big change with this is a change in the guide data source, to one that includes season and episode data, nicer titles and generally better data overall. You shouldn’t see many changes with regards to posters etc. as those sources are largely the same, with a few tweaks thrown in. It’s also now more modular, so its far easier for me to add both new guide data sources and metadata sources.

For comparision, here is the old guide (left) vs the new one (right). As you can see, most shows now have a season and episode number, where in the old guide they didn’t

As this is a complete rewrite, there may be some issues, so if there is please let me know!

The existing links (both Mt Hutt Rescue and Mt Hutt Rescue) will continue to work. However as noted above, the original guide.xml no longer has the ‘All New’ descriptors on titles.

An update to the SKY XMLTV is coming soon.

If you notice that images aren’t loading for some shows, performing a manual refresh should fix any issues.

Looking great, fantastic job.

nice work

what is the github url for your respository - cant seem to find it?

http://github.com/nzxmltv is the Github org with all the repositories in it, with http://github.com/nzxmltv/xmltv being the Freeview repo

I am keen to transition to your XML EPG as my current one for NZTV does not provide season and episode data so we cannot record multiple episodes of a program.

But browsing to the two URLs listed seem to indicate that the files are empty and my Plex server reports “Error communicating with provider”.

Could you recommend what I might have wrong?

Thanks.

There was an issue on my end sorry. I’ve done a temporary fix for now, with a permanent fix coming tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks you so much for your prompt response. Your XML NZTV EPG is far superior to one I had been using (I can now record a series and filter on HD channels) and makes my PlexPass worth having. Thanks heaps!

Hi,

Looks like your issue is still occuring.
Im getting the “Error communicating with provider” still @ 11.30am 26 Aug.

This XML is far better than any other I’ve found. Thank you so much!

However, The XML file seems to be empty.

Would love an update when this is fixed.

Sorry about this issue, Maori TV wasn’t providing some programmes, causing an issue with the script. This should be fixed tonight, however there may be some missing shoes on Maori TV.

The blank guide issue should be solved now. Once again sorry about this.
