PS3 - Center channel playing on right front, DTS HD MA movies only

I have some MKVs with DTS HD MA audio tracks. For these movies, the center channel is playing on the right front channel. In the PS3 app, I have ‘Dolby Digital (AC3)’ checked. I have tried it both checked and unchecked.

I understand that with MKVs and DTS, the plex media server is doing the transcoding, and I see on the receiver that its coming from the PS3 as PCM.

This only seems to be a problem with my MKVs that are DTS HD MA, those with dolby digital tracks are ok.

I am also having this issue. Only noticed this with DTS 5.1. They’re MKV containers, and the audio codec listed is DCA? Not familiar with that one.

Other MKV files with “dolby digital” AC3 5.1 audio codec work perfectly. I used to have an issues with AC3 but since I checked the box for ‘Dolby Digital (AC3)’ (as you mentioned above) and unchecked ‘direct play’, ‘direct stream’, ‘Allow Direct Play of AC3 Audio’, and ‘Prefer AAC Audio’ boxes in settings on the PMS, they seem to play fine.

I also use a RPi2 with Rasplex on a different TV, and experience no issues. But that setup uses the TV speakers, not a Yamaha 7.1 channel receiver the PS3 is on.

This issue, plus the general sluggishness of the PS3 Plex app, is making the PS3 a very challenging client for me. I might switch to a second RPi to replace the PS3 soon.

Yes, I agree. I was hopeful that the PS3 would serve as a good Plex client, but it just doesn’t do the job. I hate to buy more hardware, but I think I’m going to try an Intel NUC with the plex media player embedded client.

By the way, I noticed the DCA codec also.

This question comes up all the time all over the Plex forums and the internet as a whole and still I’ve never seen a solid answer as to what’s up with this. Is it a Plex/PS3 limitation that just can’t be overcome? DTS is a pretty standard thing these days. I find it hard to believe it somehow can’t be decoded/transcoded to work in a modern day PS3 based home theater setup. Just tell us it can’t be done so we can stop ripping our hair out looking for answers and start converting every DTS audio track we come across to AC3 with things like XMedia Recode. Help, someone!

I have the same problem with AC3 audio.

I’m experiencing the same issue with Plex on the PS3. It’s only DTS, AC3 plays fine for me. I’ve used Plex for years and started getting this problem about a week ago. It may have coincided with a system update that was installed recently however it seems to be only the Plex app that has the problem.

I can see that this has been raised by others in the past and there are examples of Plex acknowledging a problem but there is never an answer as to what the problem is and how to resolve. I’ guessing no one has found a resolution to this yet?

I am having this issue with AC3 audio and nothing I’ve tried works. I had been using the app for months with no issue and it suddenly started doing it mid-episode. Between this and my buffering problems on the PS4 Plex app I’m highly considering switching to Kodi.

Same for me, looking for a fix very often but things doesn’t seem to move at all.
The worst thing there is that it used to work perfectly before, then suddently, maybe from an update, we got those channels completly messed up.
