PS3 Navigation gets slower over time (since v2.4.19) - NOT RESOLVED YET

Using my PS3 as a client is absolutely impossible. It takes a minute or more to update the screen and waiting 2 minutes for a movie to start. (Yes this is a post from January 2016 - not 1996). If you cannot fix this issue it might be better to not support PS3 as I and I guess other users get frustrated paying for a service that obviously has a low priority getting solved. My PS3 is not having problem with any other apps and I can stream content form the media server with the default PS3 app without any problems. So this is an annoying Plex PS3 client issue. Please give an honest response on whether you will seriously look into this or you hope users eventually will stop complaining about it.

I’m running PS3 client 2.5.1, server 0.9.15.2. 1GB Internal network. (250/250 Internet connection) Library around 10 000 movies/episodes on five different disks in one server. I have several external simulations users. They and I have no problem streaming content on Android, iPhone, iPad or PC.

There are several problems playing music from my music library via the PS3 app:

  1. PS3 will only play one song at the time, it won’t accept a ā€˜Play Next’
  2. PS3 will play only the first song in a playlist, it won’t go through the queue of songs
  3. PS3 will not play anything added to the ā€˜Up Next’ embedded playlist
  4. Menu navigation is extremely slow, 30 seconds to move the cursor on the screen

I hope this helps with the bug finding, I’d really like to use the PS3 as my main music plex client.

I’ve been using PHT on my PC for a while and just started using Plex on PS3 because I wanted to have everything in one place (Netflix, Hulu, etc). To my disappointment, Plex on PS3 is unusable. The interface simply sucks compared to PHT. It is a terrible layout, super slow and hard to navigate. Will there ever be improvements for this app so that is works better? I also have a Roku LT and with that crippled piece of hardware, it seems to outperform the PS3.

I’m seeing the same behavior the Plex application is very slow to respond when I hit play. It’s to the point of almost not being usable.

From what I see from other apps (Spotify, Netflix) the PS3 is generally slow, but at least it doesn’t get slower over time. The current state of the Plex PS3 app is unusable, the only actual usage scenario is if you navigate and do everything from a mobile Plex app and right before you hit ā€œplayā€ you connect to the PS3. And that will work for one video only. Can’t be taken seriously.

@mattseeley any update on this? Or has Plex swept the issue under the rug?

Lately I’ve been having to quit to XMB every 2-3 videos because the app becomes almost unresponsive. To pause/stop a video sometimes means pressing it 5-10+ times on the PS3 Remote. Using a controller is just as bad.

Yeah, I’ve been seeing the same thing with my Playstation 3. Quite annoying to have to quit back to XMB. Never had this issue with my ancient Roku HD-XR, I could leave it in the Plex channel for weeks at a time.

I love Plex…so much that I did a lifetime subscription to PlexPass.

I have the server running off a QNAP TS-453A…and the client running on Android, PC, Roku 3, and PS3.

Only the PS3 client has these issues. I am wondering if there is any update on this issue?

I’ve been patient enough, i had really hoped the Plex staff could take this problem seriously since this is a service you pay Premium for. So because it hasn’t been taken seriously, i’ve canceled my premium pass.

The Playstation app hasn’t required Plex Pass for a while now.

Plex on the PS3 is virtually unusable. I have it working great on all my Android and Apple devices but on the PS3 it’s just not a pleasant experience. I consider myself a patient person but when it takes 30 seconds or more to move between movies on the title screen I just give up and switch to the native PS3 app. I’ll probably stop using Plex altogether as I have other options. It’s too bad they couldn’t get this fixed.

The PlayStation 3 app is unusable for me aswell, it is taking over two minutes to load titles now because of this new update. I’d rather they just let me choose whether to update my app.

Sure could use some help with this issue.

I’m working on our next PS3 and PS4 update at the moment and hoping that this problem is fixed in the new platform version from Sony.

I mistakenly thought that the updates to the PS3/4 app would resolve this, but appears not to have happened but the issue is not getting any comment/response from the dev team - I assume because the forum post is showing as ā€œansweredā€?

Is there a way to vote on issues like this? Until then +1 for someone struggling with this. I’ve found it easier to drag the chromecast into what ever room I’m watching rather than deal with the unusable PS3 Plex App.

Well ive been following this for some time and well i am utterly disappointed by the PS3 service as I have changed form having a dedicated media server to now my PS3 in the living room to take advantage of the fact that i can then also play DVD and Blu Ray movies. This service is no longer useable. It used to take a while for the slow down, now its almost instant i go from main menu to choosing TV then all shows browse then as soon as i start to choose the show and episode it freezes and doesnt do anything. I used to use media portal and I am thinking of going back and cancelling my plex plus.

@Neclimdul - unless I am mistaken the best/preffered way to vote is to ā€˜like’ the 1st comment in the thread… this I am informed (in other threads) is the best way to get devs attention. whether that is true or not I have no idea. (alternatively do what I do and like every comment in a thread, where things are not acknowledged). sure I also read elsewhere that +1’ing a thread does not contribute to a vote
