PS4 Buffering Issue at Low Bitrate

Hi All - I have noticed a lot of PS4 buffering issues in the forum however mine appears even on low bitrate streams.

I have a gigabit network all wired with a Asus 87u router. Plex is on a Mac with i7 and 16Gb, Data on a high spec NAS and PS4 on Gigabit LAN.

During movie playback I will often get a "Buffering", this could be 10 min in, an hour in etc...but 9/10 times I watch something I get buffering issues. I then need to exit the movie and re-play it.

I've looked at the logs and the "speed =>" averages about 20. Looking at the last time I had an issue

Jan 26, 2015 22:06:56 [0x10ba58000] DEBUG -  * progress => 78.7

Jan 26, 2015 22:06:56 [0x10ba58000] DEBUG -  * size => -22

Then there is no other "speed =>" until a buffering appears at 22:09:02

Has anybody else come across this before or got any ideas?

I have the same issue. The buffering seems to happen at specific intervals between 45 mins to an hour. Stopping the video and resuming seems to address it until the next 45 mins or so.

Hi,

I have the same problem, running just fine and the buffering is starting.

The buffering issue is something extremely annoying indeed and the Plex team is currently talking to Sony about this, to see if this can be resolved.

I'm having exactly the same problem on a PS3 running 8mbps stereo video. Original files are all around 20mbps h264 mkv DTS 5.1

Wired T100 connection throughout, starts buffering after an hour or so.

Restarting the stream fixes the problem for another hour

So this IS a problem? good to know that there is nothing I can do but hope it gets fixed. Seriously, I thought I was doing something wrong. It was expected to me, the service is new to the system so... guess it needs to evolve.

In my case it only happens with DTS audio enabled.

I'm having this issue regardless whether it's 8 Mbps or 4 Mbps. DTS audio is disabled.

I'm disappointed in Plex. The only reason I bought the pass was for PS4 playback, and now I'm definitely not going to continue with the subscription.

In my case it only happens with DTS audio enabled.

We don't offer DTS audio as a selecting in the Settings > Receiver Capabilities. Do you all really see the DTS selection?

Sorry, I meant with a DTS track selected (English is not my mother tongue ). Can I ask you something? As you pointed out in my other comment DTS is not supported because of the software stack used. When you say stack do you mean something like the API's? Are they provided by Sony itself or are they part of PLEX own libraries/API's ? I'm just curious I'm a Software Developer.

No need to apologize. Thank you very much for clarifying. If you were able to select DTS there would have been a bug in our code. :)

Sure jigzat. To me the "stack" is the set of components forming the foundation for the app. It's the stuff that the app doesn't directly interface with that supports the app. When we refer to API support that's typically a software component we can see and address directly. Today, the Plex app on the PS3/4 runs on top of Sony's stack. We don't have any of our own libraries/APIs running on the PS3/4.
