so after over 10 MINUTES trying to play a tv show after i had to click about 9 buttons instead of just 3 that i used to on old UI.
“An error has occured in the following application:
(CE-34878-0)
Plex”
this is just getting rediculous. the old app/UI was perfect and the best layout. now its horrible layout, harder to use or find anything and then it always constantly crashes…
plex is officially becoming dead and useless if changes like this keep happening. first cloud goes, now the app updates to horrible UI, seen lots complaints about it… and it doesn’t even work anyway!
oh and any NEW added shows with subtitles, even though defo set up same as usual on the folder on hard drive… says “none” for subtitles… another feature thats broken
UI is attrocious and not user friendly and the app is buggier than ever, barely get to watch anything without it crashing and skipping ahead frequently breaks the video requiring restart. I don’t understand how with the previous app working great. Suggestion at a minimum please give multiple UI s
I regret to buy the lifetime subscription (at least currently). The App doesn’t work at all. Since the new version I mostly see spinning wheels. I can’t get any connection to my computer (with old app I haven’t this amount of problems and with Samsung App I get a connection) and just one time I get connected to my NAS Synology. Unfortunately just once. After restart I see a spinning wheel like others.
For me it is the most expensive spinning wheel. I start to look in other apps (like emby and stremio).
Seriously PLEX, this new UI is terrible and I too regret buying my PLEX pass.
First Classic Plex was killed on my roku, then Plex Cloud is gone and now this.
You would think they are deliberately trying to drive us away. Maybe time to look at Emby again.
For now back to using my roku but how long will it be before the UI changes on that device ?
@Moussa Well the new version is completely broken for me. It will no longer play any recorded tv, all of which played fine on the old version. Looking at the logs it appears it believes the reason is Direct Play of interlaced video is unsupported, which is used by every broadcast channel in Australia. The previous version had no problem Direct Playing interlaced video files from the DVR (aside from unrelated audio codec problems for some channels) so why has the new version apparently not implemented this basic function? The log also reports both Direct Play and Direct Stream as disabled, which they are not (both ticked in settings).

@thomy22 That’s strange. Can you ask them to hard reboot the console and then try installing the app?
@Missekat Can you try changing the Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections setting in the app to something lower and seeing if that helps?
@TinCatCanuck You can delete a show by going to the show preplay page and selecting Delete from the actions menu (...)
@lennier76 That is intended behaviour. The platform specifications tell us that the PS4 does not support interlaced video, and indeed in our testing none of our interlaced videos would play correctly. I’m curious to see, could you provide a sample interlaced video that did work before?
@Moussa
Just to tell which solutions i have tried, so we can failfind together
I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it.
I have tried to allow insecure connections
I have tried changing to another home (So new network, new NAT1) and on this network there is a ps4 pro that are working fine (But the Ps4 slim with the problem, still don’t work)
I have tried formatting the ps4 and re-install plex (Even the format that takes hours to complete)
I have tried using another server
I have tried using another user both on plex and on the PS4
Can confirm this, even my users have already tried everything that was possible.
These 3 users are also normal PS4 (no Pro version).
After uninstalling and reinstalling you can take a look and then you won’t come in again and the game starts all over again. There must definitely be something wrong with the current version.
Having all kinds of issues with the newest update where none existed before. Couple examples are videos will randomly freeze after trying to skip forward and I’ve had the entire UI freeze as well, but I could still the sound effects of scrolling through menus in the background. Both instances I have to force quit the app.
Also the old interface was 10x better… but if it’s a choice between an ugly interface and a functioning program, guess I’d rather the program working…
@moussa Well every single one of the hundreds of Plex DVR recordings I’ve made over the past year or two is interlaced, and every one of them played correctly on the PS4 both via Direct Play on Plex and the PS4 built-in media player. So either there is something wrong with your reading of the platform specs and testing, or the earlier Plex versions de-interlaced in the player.
Either way, as it stands you’ve made DVR functionality completely useless for PS4 users in Australia and I expect many other countries (interlaced video is still very common in broadcast) where it used to work fine, and clearly can be made to work fine. I hope this will be addressed with some urgency.
@Missekat So there’s another PS4 on the same network that works fine? Are you using the same account on both? Interested to figure out what the difference between the two devices is.
@lennier76 As I mentioned, a sample would help. Funnily enough the ninja who tested this particular issue internally is also in Australia, and none of his recorded DVR content would play correctly when direct played. So I’m curious to see what the difference is in your case.
@Moussa
That’s easy. The working one is a Pro. The non-working is a slim - That’s the only difference, everything else have been ruled out, by using the same servers and same users.
The slim is a CUH-2016a (Modelnumber)
The pro is a CUH-7016B (Modelnumber)
@moussa It will be difficult and slow to upload a multi-GB existing recording. I can record a new small sample but clearly that won’t be something that has been successfully played on the old Plex player, even though I’m 100% confident that it would. I can do that if you like.
As I said, I have never had a problem playing a DVR recording from broadcast interlaced video (aside from unrelated issues like some specific channels which use an unsupported codec) in all the years I’ve been using Plex DVR and the Plex PS4 player. They all Direct Play on the old version (they have to, I have a NAS backend and cannot transcode) and none of them will on the new one. Surely you can look at the old player and see how interlaced video was supported?
There are many threads on the forum discussing other past issues with the PS4 player where it’s noted (in passing) that the Australian DVR recordings are (and should be) interlaced, including ones where myself and @DaveBinM were involved. Is he the Ninja in question? Clearly Direct Playing of interlaced DVR files is something that has always been supported on past PS4 player versions and now is not.
I have a similar problem as Thomy22. When the app starts i see the icons for tv, movies, etc on the top, but below that all I have is the spinning wheel. If I select one of the above categories, it shows my media server listed as nearby, but no content loads. If I keep closing and restarting the app it usually works correctly after a few restarts.
