PS4 v4.72 & Plex v1.02 -> No Audio

Looking forward to the fix. Thanks!

Sorry for the problem guys, unfortunately, we didn’t run into this issue during QA since PS4’s default setting is PCM. we are looking for find a proper solution for this issue in the mean time please switch your PS4 settings to PCM to get audio working again.

I’ll keep this thread updated with our progress.

Again or you can leave all of your settings the same, and open the plex app, go to the top right corner and select ā€œsettingsā€ and then in the audio tab uncheck ā€œDolby Digital AC3ā€ and it will work. And display DTS on your receiver when playing a show with dts.

I’m listening to ac3 5.1 right now as passthrough on my ps4 pro:

Codec AC3
Channels 5.1
Bitrate 640 kbps
Language English
Audio Channel Layout 5.1(side)
Sampling Rate 48000 Hz

I was tired to crackly audio coming from the AAC transcode, so I enabled eac3 and ac3 as passthrough in the Playstation 4 xml profile a couple days ago (and restarted the Plex Server). It sounds like good timing. I’m not sure why I would want to transcode to AAC if I can passthrough?

VideoProfile protocol=ā€œhlsā€ container=ā€œmpegtsā€ videoCodec=ā€œh264ā€ audioCodec=ā€œaac,ac3,eac3ā€ context=ā€œstreamingā€

Could you guys share the brand and model of your receiver, also try switching between DTS and Dolby in PS4 output settings and see if it makes any difference. (you might have to close Plex and start for the changes to take effect)

Denon x2300 Receiver to a Sony 65x930e via HDMI ARC. Both Bitstream (DTS) and Bitstream Dolby have no sound. UNLESS you go to the settings (see the pictures I am attaching) and uncheck the ā€œDolby Digital AC3ā€. In the second picture, you only have that one option on the PS4, not all the rest you see. When I leave it on Bitstream (DTS) and uncheck that, my receiver shows DTS and the sound plays. I still am not sure if its actually the same sound or not. I try quickly switching back between Linear PCM and it sounds very similar so its hard to tell.

those screen shots look like Plex Media Player. The PS4 app does not have those options.

nvrmnd i just reread your post

My A/V receiver is a Sony STR-DN1000. I couldn’t get either DTS or Dolby to work, but I didn’t have time to try every combination of those and the selection box inside Plex.

I feel this issue is related to the recent Plex App update, and not audio receivers. I’m also having the same problem, and I have a Pioneer audio receiver. That’s at least 3 different brand audio receivers as far as I can tell from previous comments (Denon, Sony, and Pioneer).

5.1 audio only seems to work with Plex when the PS4 is set to Linear PCM audio, both BitStream (Dolby) and BitStream (DTS) do not work when playing a video containing an AC-3 audio stream.

The workaround provided by @gtosnipey also works.

The Plex App on the PS3 does not have this issue.

I’m using a Denon 4308ci, and it’s the same with DTS and Dolby on the PS4 output. WIth PCI Linear it kinda works, but it plays awfully.

I also have a Roku 2 and tried it yesterday (through the receiver) and it sounds just like PS4 with PCI selected.

I’m using a Denon AVR-X4300H receiver. If I can alter the XML file to pass audio straight through to the receiver I’d really prefer that. I never get Atmos or Dolby HD or DTS-MA flags on my receiver. I’d guess that’d require setting the PS4 to LPCM mode and leaving the AVR to handle the decoding of the audio stream.

I hope we see something soon. PS4 is our primary source of watching shows :frowning:

Seeing the same problem with my Yamaha rx675 which was previously working without issue.

Any news on this? PS4 is also my primary source.

Hopefully we get word soon still waiting.

This is ridiculous, when is this issue going to be resolved? I just updated to 4.73 on my PS4 and the issue is still there. Fix this now or I’'m cancelling my subscription.

auto selecting language track from global settings doesn’t work as well on PS4

I feel like the ā€œupdateā€ for 1.02 didn’t introduce much that we could get a rollback to 1.01 until its fixed? I feel like the majority of people using the Plex app on PS4 are affected by the sound issue compared to the people who are gaining a benefit from the small changes (at least based on the change log info). The sound is much worse now having to switch settings.

a fix i found was to turn dolby digital in audio settings to off for ac3 files. it still plays back in dd though according to my yamaha receiver.

I had to update my profile again for the new update. It was just adding the video codecs to the VideoProfile’s audioCodec attribute that needed updating: audioCodec=ā€œaac,eac3,ac3ā€

On my WD MyCloud, ā€œPlayStation 4 App.xmlā€ is in /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/plexmediaserver/binaries/Resources/Profiles/

Hey kay.one - any news on the progress and/or ETA of a fix?

Cheers!
