@“kay.one” wanted to check in on the progress or an update? My primary/only way of using plex and playing movies now has very sub par sound without this enabled. We are all waiting patiently for a fix
Still hoping for some type of response or timeline, using Plex now is just not as good as I’m not getting the full experience of the sound anymore. I really wish I could go back to v1.01

Sorry for the problem guys, unfortunately, we didn’t run into this issue during QA since PS4’s default setting is PCM. we are looking for find a proper solution for this issue in the mean time please switch your PS4 settings to PCM to get audio working again.I’ll keep this thread updated with our progress.
Hi kay.one - any progress or updates you can share with us? Been a couple months with this thing broken and no indication of resolution time (or even likelihood.) Please give us an update?
Cheers.

@“kay.one” I am still waiting as well. Just bought the Plex Premium Lifetime pass a little while back. The only method I use for watching Plex is my PS4 app. It would really be nice to get the sound back. I know there are a number of people who haven’t been able to use the work around I mentioned some posts back and are without sound for a lot of videos. Really would love an update, it’s hard to use every day.
Still no updates… The app is literally broken for a lot of people.
How PS4 does not support DTS natively when it’s advertised to do so? This is a serious question because it technically knows how to decode and playback the audio format.
However, this brings me to a second question: how much of a support do you receive from Sony? Because as I look to the PS4 UI (which by the way it’s not as slick as you advertise it on your website), my conclusion would be nothing besides the basic SDK. Because PS4 (both standard and Pro) is a hardware that is more powerful than say Apple TV or Shield yet has an uglier and less performing app.
Don’t get me wrong: it’s not a critique to your side. I totally get that developing on PS4 is absolutely harder and more difficult than on Android (open source) and iOS (same coding throughout Apple platforms besides OSX - I think). Yet, I was wondering if there was any possibility to have Sony more involved in the app. In the end Plex is probably the best HT application, so it would be to their advantage to have a great Plex version on their platform (even though they are missing a UHD drive, which would be the only drawback to be the ultimate HT hardware). I just see it as a win-win situation.
@“kay.one” I’m going to keep following up, because I love plex, and am just not having an enjoyable experience anymore with the degraded audio problem. Hoping for a rollback or fix or any update thank you. Again we use our PS4 Plex app every night for tv and movies as a family.
Bump… still no updates… PS4 app for plex is still almost unusable…
Still waiting on some type of update… anyone
Three months as of tomorrow with no word Everyday is another day without sound for people who use Plex for PS4. I just am baffled, if this was for the iPhone app or Firestick I couldn’t believe it would go 3 months without addressing it.
Hi @gtosnipey. We’ve started a fresh thread with Sony to fix their regression. It’s been a long wait.
Question, what’s the degradation of audio when using Linear PCM as output?
Hi everyone. I’m having a slightly more targeted issue with audio on the PS4 Plex app. All other audio formats are working fine in every configuration (on both the PS4 side and Plex side) of settings except for flac with 4.1 channels. I have two videos from different sources with this audio format and no combination of settings enables the audio to be heard. The PS4 is connected directly to the TV, so no receiver to be causing the issue. I’ve tested, almost quite literally, videos with every other audio format under the sun and they’re all working fine, just not flac 4.1.
Also both of the videos I have with this audio format work fine on all other iterations of Plex apps that I have access to (smartphone, tablet, and apple tv) so it seems to be strictly a PS4 issue.

PS4 doesn’t natively support DolbyDigital (DTS) so we always transcode the audio track to AAC. (this is not new)Could you check the activity screen when playing the video file with no sounds and see if it says audio is being transcoded and to what format.
Also, could you check the PS4’ audio output settings under Settings > Sounds and Screen > Audio output settings
Dolby Digital is AC3 not DTS. If the PS4 doesn’t natively support DTS why can you set it as the default audio in the PS4’s settings?
Also just discovered I’m having a variant of this issue…PS4 was set to “DTS” as priority, Plex app had AC3 checked in audio and direct stream and direct play both checked in video. DTS audio files played fine, but no sound with AC3 5.1 flies. Unchecked AC3 and direct play in Plex app and got sound as expected from both formats…is this issue still on to the to be fixed list, or did I find something new? Thanks.
