PS5 cant connect to server

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

I have Plex running on a synology Nas. So far, every device with Plex on it can access the server in my home network (android tablet, iPhone, smart TV)
…my PS5 is seeing the server, but cant connect. This is driving me crazy, because I dont see why it shouldnt work + there is nothing to tweak in the PS5 client.

*** FIXED (see reply) ****

I have the same problem. My server is on a windows machine (current server version). Every other Plex app in my ecosystem can connect to the server without issue. PS5 app (current version) used to work as well. It suddenly stopped working approximately 10 days ago. Reinstalling the app, logging in and out of both server and app did not fix the issue. Insecure connections are enabled on the server (preferred not required).
PS5 app can see the server after login to Plex account (correct server name is displayed) but fails to connect every time.

Is there a patch coming for the PS5 app?

Same here! Bump

**** UPDATE / FIXED ****

I was finally able to fix the connection issue with my PlayStation 5 following these steps:

  1. Make sure you have the current version of your DSM on your Synology NAS (DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 4)
  2. Make sure you have the current version of Plex Media Server installed on your NAS (v1.31.1.6733)
  3. Make sure your PS5/Plex-App is up to date (v5.55.2 / Platform version 6.50)
  4. Activate Remote Access on your Plex Server (Settings → Remote Access)
  5. Check the box for “Manually specify public port” and set it to a port of your choice e.g. 32400
  6. Finally you want to make sure the port chosen in step 5 (e.g 32400) is forwarded to your Synology NAS’s IP address (Plex Server). If you made the correct configurations on your router you should see “Fully accessible outside your network” on your Plex Server (Settings->Remote Access). For instructions on how to do this correctly please refer to your WiFi-Routers manual. (Port Forwarding)
  7. Make sure your PS5 is connected via WiFi and NOT via Ethernet cable.

REMARKS:

If you do not forward the port you should be able to connect to your server from your PS5. Unfortunately your connection will be “Indirect” and that will prevent most movies and shows from playing. So it is very important to forward the port. Doing this will show the server connection as “remote” and your PS 5 will be able to direct play or direct stream most of your media files without issues.

If you connect via Ethernet Cable instead of WiFi your connection will also be “indirect” and you will experience the same problems mentioned before.

This is a mess. It took me hours to figure all this out because everything was working smoothly just 3 weeks ago using an Ethernet cable having Remote Server Access disabled. There must have been some update that broke things badly because my brother (living in another town) had the exact same problem at the same time with his Synology NAS and PS5. We both have the same ISP (Switzerland UPC/Sunrise), but I’m almost certain that has nothing to do with this problem.

Let’s hope someone fixes this mess soon. In the meantime I hope this information can help someone else out there. Keep Plexing!

Still now fix. Bump. Bump. :poop:

Thanks for your tips Josherious!
(but I don’t want such a crude fix)

I still can’t reach my local and a friends remote server.

I read on reddit that changing the DNS Server to 1.1.1.1. (or I guess similiar) should fix the issue, for the local problem. Which does not make alot of sense but seems to work.

Please fix. Bump. Bump. :poop:

I just got my PS5 to connect to my PC’s Plex Server by noting down my routers DNS settings (OpenDNS) and then going into PS5 network settings and manually setting DNS to the same IPs and my local PC server was immediately accessible again.

BUMP! This is pure madness.
Simple router, simple 192.168.0.0/24 network, EVERYTHING can connect to Plex, except for PS5.
I go to “Settings” on PS5 app, “test media server”, I have NOTHING in PMS log files.
Set up DNS to 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8 on PS5, router and laptop. NOTHING.
Set up personal domain with proper certificates resolving to 192.168 address. NOTHING.
Tried everything, well thank you Plex, I guess it’s going back to HDMI cable into my laptop. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. Especially that you guys CHOSE to take away “manual server” in PS5 settings (I’ve read insurmountable reddit and stackoverflow threads over the last couple of days like I have nothing better to do with my life), which apparently was there and for us who can set up a network probably manual mode to https://plex.mypersonaldomain.com resolving to 192.168 with proper letsencrypt cert would just work.
PS5 app (air quote) VERBOSE (air quote) logging is unusable trash - “connecting to YOUR_SERVER_FRIENDLY_NAME… connection to YOUR_SERVER_FRIENDLY_NAME was not successful” - WHAT IS THAT?! FFS, why there are no Domain names / IP Addresses / Port numbers in (air quote) VERBOSE (air quote) logging?!

This is atrocious, and yet this POS (which is NOT Point Of Sale) app is the ONLY local streaming app on PS5 somehow. Can’t believe this!

Bump !

Still not working on PS5!!

(I even tried that DNS work around which doesn‘t make any sense and doesn‘t work.)

Bump !
