Thank you Otto, this was very helpful just now with trying to figure out where this option for TVDB might be buried
Thatās the Advanced tab of the Edit modal for the tv show (on tv-show level: ... > Edit... or click the [pencil] icon; then go to Advanced, there youāll find the Episode ordering as the last option)
Does someone know why this doesnt work for dragonball from tvdb?
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/dragon-ball (order seasons by sagas)
I would like to set it to āsagasā but this doesnt show up, is there another way?
Plex can currently only deal with airing, dvd and absolute order.
are there any plans to make it possible to adapt other order of sorting?
Plex doesnāt usually comment on their plans or development roadmap.
Thereās a feature suggestion asking to support alternative orders that are available on TheTVDb.com inside Plex⦠you could vote for that to help Plex see where usersā interests are ![]()
Even after setting to DVD order and refreshing the metadata for this same series it still messes up for me. I thought I was going crazyā¦the first disc in the series it gets them all right then usually starting on the second disc is mixes up the titles on a few (usually off by one). Iāve even gone out to the TVDB website and checked the dvd order and it was right for the season iām on but still mislabeled the episodes. Itās frustrating, any other ideas?
Tried these steps⦠Including the āRefresh Metadataā and Iām STILL having trouble with Firefly showing up in the order the idiots at Fox Aired it instead of the order that the lord-god-joss intended themā¦
At this point, Iām ready to go ahead and manually type it, but donāt want to lose all my customizations the next time I move my libraryā¦
@itguy0101 did you rename your files? It was mentioned earlier in this post, but when you click DVD order it changes only the names in Plex, not which episodes it points to on the drive on your computer.
For example, I currently have Firefly on Plex working correctly in DVD order, with Serenity being the first episode. But if I change it to aired order, only the titles change, not the files; while The Train Job will be listed first, if you try and watch it it will still play Serenity as that is the file I have listed as āFirefly - S01E01.ā
Came here trying to fix the problem I was having with the recently-aired Animaniacs (Season 06)
I found that on TVDB the āDVD Orderā corresponds to the 13 files I have (whereas the default, āAired orderā contains some 40 āepisodesā of each individual cartoon). The files are named appropriately; the first episode that I have, which contains the first four cartoons, is named āAnimaniacs S06E01ā
I faithfully followed the steps above, editing the top-level (aka show) > Advanced > set to DVD ordering, then did a Refresh Metadata from the same (top-level, aka show)
However, metadata doesnāt seem to have refreshed; it still appears to be pulling the metadata from the Aired order⦠am i missing something?
I too am having trouble with scraping for āDVD orderā
Mine specifically, is for āThe Office (US)ā. It seems to be pulling from DVD and aired order somewhat at random, as some are correct, while others are not. TheTVDB orders are correct, and my files are named correctly for DVD order.
The worst offender is season 4, which is a complete mess, whereas season 5 pulls perfectly.
Plex has not been respecting the switch to DVD order for any of the series Iāve added this year (Star Wars Rebels, Terra Nova, Steven Universe, etc.).
All of the files have been renamed and properly numbered to match the TVDB DVD order page, but even in situations where Plex supports the order of my files, it continues to apply Metadata to the episodes based on the Aired episode order. Removing the series, emptying the trash, and re-adding it after switching to DVD order does not resolve the issue.
Strangely, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2009) has no trouble respecting āAbsolute Orderingā for episodes when it comes to both ordering and pulling the correct episode metadata.
Iām running into the same thing with The Office S04. It is set to DVD Order at the series level, but it pulls some weird combo of the airing order and DVD order (1-4, 14 from airing order and 5-13 from DVD order). Anyone have any thoughts? Does this feature just not work for certain series?
Same issue with The Office. Iāve found that 6x16 and 7x24 (The Delivery and Search Committee, respectively) have the same problem when using DVD order. I entered the metadata manually for now.
Iām having the EXACT same issue with The Office S4
Yep - many people miss that little detail.
The file naming MUST match the DVD Ordering.
All that really happens is the function pulls the correct info - for the wrong order⦠technically.
I am having this issue with āThe Men Who Built Americaā. Only 4 episodes are in the Aired Order, but the DVD set contains 8 episodes. The 8 episodes are in the DVD Order on TVDB, but only the titles for the first 4 are pulled from TVDB and the rest have the default naming of Episode ##. Any idea how to fix this? I also tried removing those 4 files after switching to DVD Order and deleting the trash before copying them back and rescanning and it did not work.
Providing you are using the Legacy Agentsā¦
In your case to use the aired order you need to stack two files into one episode:
TV Show Library Folder/
.......The Men Who Built America/
...........Season 01
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E01 - part1.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E01 - part2.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E02 - part1.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E02 - part2.xxx
.............and so on...
If you want to use the DVD Order without file stacking:
TV Show Library Folder/
.......The Men Who Built America/
...........Season 01
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E01.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E02.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E03.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E04.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E05.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E06.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E07.xxx
.............The Men Who Built America - S01E08.xxx
Invoke DVD Ordering - and Refresh Metadata.
Caveats:
Using The New Agent - your guess is as good as mine.
Android Devices explode trying to play the second part of a stacked episode - or so I hear.
Good Luck
Forgot about this issue for awhile, noticed the metadata still seemed incorrect, even though i had āDVD Orderā selected in options⦠decided to mosey over to TVDB, and it looks like in my case (Animaniacs) they have since changed the grouping: the correct listing for the files I have (~three episodes per file) is under āJoined Orderā - a category that Plex does not allow from the dropdown in the settings menu.
Maybe this is now a slightly different issue/ask for me, but thought I would post here anyway to close the loop
- and maybe other folks have encountered this āJoined Orderā before?
To be clear, the subsequent ask (perhaps best for a new thread) would be for Plex to support pulling from the Joined Order (which it looks like this post from Sept '20 is actually linking to a poll for)
