For the life of me I cannot figure out how to correctly add TV shows where they wont combine and/or ruin the other TV shows when I add them. Here are the details:

2 Main TV Folder Structures added to plex:
Plex Media\TV Shows\All TV Shows\ (Multiple Different Folders Here for TV Shows)
Plex Media\TV Shows\Kid TV Shows

I have a Folder called “I Love Lucy” and a folder called "Planet Earth II (2016)

At one point I had all metdata, poster info and episodes labeled correctly for both Paw Patrol and Planet earth.

The problem is once I added the “I Love Lucy” is when things got out of order. All of the new seasons of “I Love Lucy” combine into the same TV Show labelled “All My TV Shows” now. Episodes 1-7 of season 1 are now Planet earth and the rest of the seasons are proper “I Love Lucy”

I have followed all of the proper naming conventions from what I know of, I even used filebot to properly name all episodes. Examples here:

D:\PlexMedia\TV Shows\All TV Shows\Planet Earth II (2016)\Season 01\ Planet Earth II - S01E01 -islands.mkv
and
D:\PlexMedia\TV Shows\All TV Shows\I Love Lucy\Season 01\I Love Lucy - S01E02 - Be a Pal.avi

If I remove the planet earth folder and only add I Love Lucy, I can manually search for a match and it will properly label and change the meta data. Same goes if I remove I Love Lucy and manually search for Planet Earth match.

Any idea what I am doing wrong and the steps I need to take moving forward? I’ve done the plex dance many times, Removeing, Rescanning, Deleting trash, Readding. No Luck. If I add both at the same time they combine into 1. I can only add one and I have to manually match, But once I add the second folder they combine…

I love lucy files are .avi Not sure if that matters at all

post a screenshot of your library paths, like;

is this one library?

or is this an all tv shows library and a separate kids tv shows library ?

Your file and folder names are looking good.
You could add the (year) to the “lucy” folder name as well. Just in case this show gets a remake sometime (you never know these days).

Are you adding each tv show’s subfolder to the library individually? (on the property page ‘Add Folders’)
If so, this is wrong.
You only add one folder to the library, and this is in your case
D:\PlexMedia\TV Shows\All TV Shows\

D:\PlexMedia\TV Shows Is my only path set for TV Shows. I have it like this so that it will grab everything below it, but I can still separate my Kids TV shows from All TV Shows

This won’t work.

D:\PlexMedia\TV Shows\All TV Shows\
and
D:\PlexMedia\TV Shows\Kids TV Shows\

What if I do this?

This will work.

I will try that now, But I believe I already tried that and still have the same issues with naming and multiple seasons combining. I will change now

After your numerous attempts, it is perhaps better to either delete the whole library and re-create it
or
perform the Plex Dance with the shows which were involved in the mixups.

That worked right away. I thought I did this, Must have missed it. Everything labeled and showed up perfectly. That was an easy fix. Thanks

you should always explicitly add the (YEAR) to all shows, to avoid any confusion when plex attempts to match.

/media/tv shows

  • /showname (year)/season 01/showname (year) - s01e01 - title.mkv

Ok I will run filebot and add this! Thanks

The showname would have multiple years though? How would I add a year to “I Love Lucy” folder since its a combination of many?

I guess the only way to do that would be to create a Seperate root “I Love Lucy” folder for each season?

there should be only 1 year (the first year) for a series, unless it is a ‘reboot’ type show.

plex uses the tvdb, so all shows must use the same naming to match up properly.

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/i-love-lucy

I see. So the starting year 1967. Got it, Thanks

no actually…

First Aired 1951-10-15

should be named
/I Love Lucy (1951)/season 01/I Love Lucy (1951) - s01e01 - title.mkv

s01e01 is the determining episode for the (year).

Just be sure you check filebot when processing reboot series. It might want to add the additional year. Meaning, the year you explicitly told filebot to add and the year in the title of series. You might end up with something like this.

The Flash (2014) (2014)
