Push notifications do not work and never have

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 8.5.1.19778

I have never been able to get notifications working in my phone.

It’s a pixel 4 XL

When I go in to notifications on the app ever field is null.
See pic

This happens no matter what I do even uninstalling the app didn’t fix it.

is it enabled on your server?

sure is

odd I just opened up my Pixel 2XL and I see the null too now. They generally work fine for me previously but I have not added anything new to my server in a week or so so had not thought about it. Thanks for report.

Lmao no worries, glad it was repeatable by an member of staff should make it a lot easier for you to pin down the naughty bit of code :rofl:

Chiming in here with the same problem. Running the latest version of Plex (with PlexPass) as a Docker container. Latest version of the Plex apps on my Android phone. Samsung Galaxy Note 10+.

Sorry for loosing track of this topic. Didn’t see anything very telling in the logs. But I am running an early alpha version of 8.7.0 which should hopefully be in beta soon then public that I am getting notification with fine.

I did find out that the null is just showing for the settings on the screen that do not have a description like the “new item in on deck” one. So that is a separate issue which is also fixed in the early alpha.

I don’t have an ETA when it will be released but should be soon

Just popped in here to say I have the same issue on my Pixel 4XL, running Android 11. Thought it may have been an Android 11 issue, but apparently it’s something else. Thanks for the update and glad to see there is a fix in the pipeline.

Just an update in case I am doing something wrong on my side

Notification Issue seems to still be happening

Plex android app8.7.0.20853 (android 10)

Plex Media Server 1.20.2.3370

Plex Pass account

I have triple checked settings on device and server.
Notifications are enabled on both.

“null” display has been fixed on android app, notifications have not, in my particular case

Any advice appreciated, I miss those notifications

which notifications are enabled on your device. for things like New Item did you specifiy all libraries?

After a scan with new things added you should see lines like this in server log. ( filter logs on “push” )

Sep 29, 2020 12:05:32.115 [0x70000daba000] DEBUG - Push: Queueing up 1 sections to process for new content.
Sep 29, 2020 12:06:17.120 [0x70000dc43000] DEBUG - Push: Processing new content in section 44 for 17 users.
Sep 29, 2020 12:06:17.121 [0x70000dc43000] DEBUG - Push: There are 1 new top level things for filter '' (movie.addedAt>>=1601246635&sort=movie.addedAt:desc&type=1).

Also push notifications are highly reliant on the clocks being right as it counts new things based on when they were added after the feature was enabled on server. So please double check all the clocks are correct

EDIT
Sorry, it appears I had to simply enable Push notifications on the server. Noticed that comment above. When you enable this in the app, it really should tell you have to have done that.

“Crisis” averted. All is well. But yes, still have null everywhere.
END EDIT

Hi, I’m having the identical issue. null shows up everywhere. No notifications work.

I enabled (or tried to) “All Libraries” but I also tried multiple sub libraries like my “TV Shows”. They are indeed checked, but when I go back to the Notifications menu, it says “null” under that section and ALL of the other sections for that matter. Doesn’t notify me of anything either.
Android, Pixel 3XL, very latest Android, latest Plex app. Plex Pass subscriber as well.

what version number are you running?

Bottom of the Settings screen, it says: 8.6.0.20351 (e97d660a)

oh the Null thing should have been fixed in 8.7.0 that was released a couple days ago. Plex for Android

OK then. Haven’t received it yet. I just manually checked for updates and none available. Presumably it takes a bit of time to propagate through the Google app store.
