PVR Beta Ceton Compatability

I have the HD Home run prime with 3 tuners. and a ceton 6 tuner device. Plex needs to expand its compatibility to include more recording capacity. If they support ceton then I wouldn’t need 2 other devices.

I agree 100%. Ceton works very fine, even with Windows Media Center. My only gripe about WMC is that it is no longer supported, and it records sequential shows with the same recorder. Thus, if you set recordings to start with 3 min early and 3 late, they look like this for 60 min recording: 1st: 63 min, 2nd: 59 min, and 3rd: 63 min. WMC takes little while to churn up and so you often miss little between, then they overlap. Stupid. WMC should have each recording on separate channel (because you have 6 recorders … right), then it would be 66 min, 66 min, and 66 min – just to maek sure you got it all.

+1
Would love if Ceton tuners were supported. Trying to move away from WMC also.

I am sorry. At first I thought I read that Plex was announcing heightened healing powers with the Eurondan drug Beta-cantin that would somehow be included with a Plex Pass. Maybe with a “lifetime” sub. I bet few people would complain about the price of Plex Pass with that included.

Misreading titles is a further symptom of my advancing years.

Plex doesn’t have to get Ceton cards authorized for cable cards…they are already. It’s a matter of Plex working with Ceton cards and honoring the copy freely/once requests. I would LOVE to replace the aged WMC with Plex on my i5 HTPC. If Plex ever supports Ceton PCI cards, I just hope channel switching isn’t glacially slow (a la NextPVR)

I concur. I have a ceton infinity 6-tuner and plex support would be incredible. I will be happy to assist in any manner possible during the development of this interface.

I do not have a Ceton. But, when I first looked at Silicon Dust HD stuff, Ceton was the only other option for many tuners.

This would be a great option to add.

For all of you that want this, the correct way to ask is in the Feature Requests section of the forums. I did a search on Ceton and through six pages, none of them were in Feature Requests. If I missed it, it is only because not having one, I wasn’t motivated to click more. But, you guys should be :slight_smile:

How to create a feature request: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/139657/how-to-create-a-feature-request#latest

After that is done, the only correct way to vote on it is by clicking the “Like” button on the first post in the thread. +1s throughout the thread show support, but are not a vote.

Can someone create a feature request for this? I tried to jump to his link, but I’m not authorized … or, I’d write up a Feature Request ticket.

I don’t mind switching to Silicon Dust, but my Ceton has 6 tuners (yes, 6 tuners). And, it properly handles the DRM when I’m recording from Comcast. I don’t record movies much now – because most are on Netflix or Amazon. But, it’s nice to record some that I can watch because I’ve gotten rid of Comcast’s DVR.

I only wish that I could move to Plex and leave WMC.

Okay, I hope that I figured out how to do it. Here is the link. Please do as JeffCrum says and like it (or comment on it).

Thanks.

@Davids_Plex_DVR
I just realized that you put it in General Discussion.

It needs to go into Feature Requests which is a Plex Pass Member area.

I agree with all of you above. I have the same unit: Ceton InfinitiTV 6 that records on 6 channels at once. Here is a picture and write-up about it. And, it works perfect … EXCEPT Windows Media Center sucks BIG-TIME, so I just hope that they get drivers and make it available to work with Plex and the DVR capabilities like HDHomeRun is trying to create. Honestly, as all of you probably feel too, we have to move away from Windows Media Center and all of it’s bullshit problems. It’s a full-time job almost (for me) keeping WMC going correctly. Once it going fine, but moving to a new computer … WOW, it’s too much trouble. I leave my current WMC computer alone and it does nothing but WMC. Okay, sorry I babbled too much!!!

Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH - Ethernet CableCARD Network Tuner

I switched to Mediaportal for this reason. Much easier to use, and has a pretty decent userbase. I’ve been using it for about 7 years now.

I have just recently started looking at other solutions, just to see what else is out there. I currently have a Mediaportal setup, and it works great with the Ceton cards. It doesn’t honor the copy once stuff, so I don’t get premium channels like HBO, etc…, but I also don’t subscribe to those channels either, so my usage may differ a lot from WMC users (as a side note, you can use the online version of those subscriptions, if you are using an HTPC for tv).

Anyway, while I’m happy with Mediaportal for the most part, I’d really like a solution that works on more operating systems, and a wider variety of hardware. I already run a plex server to access my movies and music from my phone (great for road trips), and if I could do TV as well, then that is just icing on the cake (and an easy excuse to downsize my server farm).

I didn’t see my current OTA cards on the list, but they may still work since they are in the same family as the Hauppauge quad tuner.

I would also like Ceton support. The Ceton InfiniTV 6 looks like the best device on the market.

+1 for Ceton support with Plex DVR!

I picked up a Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH off of ebay for $50 and hooked it up to my network with a cable card and its amazing. I can stream shows on most devices flawlessly. I still use MCE and it works great with the InfiniTV 6 ETH.

I would love if Plex can include all the models of the Ceton as they work great and it would breath new life into Ceton’s company as well…

Still have my Ceton InfiniTV6. Hope Plex Pros can find away…

Nonna07 –

I agree with you 100%. Seriously, often, I still think about Plex having Ceton capabilities.

On a weekly to bi-weekly basis, I’m still fighting with MCE on Win7 to do it. I so wish that Plex would figure out how to get Ceton working, because Ceton really works perfect with Comcast and its cable card. Only thing is maintaining a Win7 box and not being able to share copy-protected content unless you have an Xbox360 or watch on the MCE machine. Pain in ass. Plex could solve all of that.

@JeffCrum
Can you put this request in the Desired Features area? I don’t have a Plex Plus account. I didn’t get one, because it’s not really as useful to me without having Ceton capabilities. I can just Windows share a directory with my content.

Please, write back and let me know if you will add it. Or, if someone else has a Plex subscriber account, can you add the post to help Plex get Ceton capabilities? You can refer to one of these comment threads if necessary.

Thanks everyone and please let me know. This matters greatly to me and many, many other people.

@Nonna07
Or, since you’ve got a Plex Pass, can you add it to that section.

Or, even @Wormbringer – can you add it?

Can you guys even see my posts?

thanks, do let me know.

@Quazil @scstanton @mbehrje @robwhitey
Can anyone of you add this request to the Plex New Feature Request area? I can’t because I’m not a Plex subscriber.

And, yes, @Quazil is right – it’s awesome. Works perfect. Just problem maintaining a Win7 box and keeping the cable channels updated is problematic – which MCE wasn’t designed for that many features.

Trust me. I’ve spent many a long night trying to keep it working. I used to use it non-stop, but I stepped away a little because I’ve got family and elder care issues. Yet, I used to love using MCE to record my shows and DVR them.

Best yet, is I got ot keep them local. Granted, Comcast can do some of it now, but it’s better to keep your own copy … because Comcast will only keep (like 5 shows maybe) on some stuff so once you pass that 5 shows – you’re screwed. So, I gave up watching HUMANS or that wilderness show (with Dave & Cody) because I just lost too many episodes to keep track.

Anyway, if anyone has thoughts, do let me know.

Thanks ya’ll for agreeing with me that Plex needs Ceton capabilities too.
